Generally we disable right click on the start menu. It *might* work if you delete the following key owned by SYSTEM. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Launcher.AllAppsDesktopApplication\Shell\OpenFileLocation ...but it might not... either way, I would try it out on a test PC. If it does work, this would most likely disable the ability for all users. 1

Ah, see I'm more simple-simon than that, there is one start menu for staff and students. the only difference is that Smart is not installed on student machines and I can cope with one blank icon on a start menu!

User Configuration -> Policies -> Administrative Templates -> Start Menu and Taskbar -> Prevent users from customizing their Start Screen
mdrabble Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 As a thought - if you wanted staff or IT Support staff to be able to still use that feature, you could set permissions on that registry key so students are denied read access to that registry key. 1

Your registry tweak works, I just need to get the GPO to do as I wish.

Thanks If I am understanding your question right they probably have a redirected start menu to a server share and then when opening up the file location it takes them to that share instead of the c: drive Just wondering did you ever get the registry change via gpo to stop the right click open file location working?

I tried to delete the key but it never worked. I then tried to delete it manually to test it would work but it failed with an error. I haven't tried to resolve the error yet as I've been doing other tasks.
