Hello,

 

Does anyone know of any draft e-mail policies that are available and appropriate for UK schools. I am in the process of drafting one for student usage of e-mail before we trial giving students OWA access.

 

Obviously it will have to be tailored for our own specific circumstances but I’m after the basis of what others are using to make sure I don’t miss anything!!

This is an area of interest to me as well. After October half term we started using the Microsoft Learning Gateway and all students have OWA. It was fine to start with but since then we have had a huge crack down on MSN and all versions of online messengers. Now we have noticed a pattern of kids using email as chatting. Mainly dinner times they are all in different parts of the school supposedly catching up on course work sending emails to and fro using it to chat.

 

 

We will will be using this new Forensic Software to monitor contents for bullying, swear words, racism etc but its not fully deployed yet. (testing it on a couple of rooms so far.

EMAIL acceptable use policy

The college email system is a filtered, monitored system with students not being allowed access to any other online systems (e.g.hotmail). All students are allocated an email address in Year 7 that stays with them throughout their college careers. Any misuse of the system will result in the disabling of the relevant account.

 

Users are responsible for all e-mail they send and for contacts made.

 

E-mail should be written carefully and politely. As messages may be forwarded, e-mail is best regarded as public property.

 

Anonymous messages and chain letters must not be sent.

 

Never give out personal information, always use the college address and telephone numbers if needed.

 

Never use vulgar or offensive language in any communications.

 

Make your subject line as descriptive but also as short as possible.

 

Do not reply to pestering, offensive or suggestive e-mails and report any such messages to your teacher. Use your personal e-mail filters to delete annoying 'spam' mail.

 

Never arrange to meet people via the internet and always inform an adult if someone suggests such a meeting.

Did anyone get anywhere with this or can they provide an AUP? fooby's is quite good but do I need anything else? Obviously this will be a document that parent will have to sign
