This was via our reseller. It took a few days for the licence to appear in the tenant.

Thanks, I don't hold up much hope Ill get this before the start of term!

I can't get it working on a hybrid joined VM or laptop. It just licences as the user. I had a ticket open with Office 365 and they said everything was configured cloud side OK. I may try a pure AzureAD joined device just to rule out any hybrid issues.

My re seller is saying he can only see "O365ProPlusOpenStudents ShrdSvr ALNG SubsVL OLV NL 12Mth Acdmc Stdnt STUUseBnft" as a licence, I don't think this is the correct one. Does anyone have the 'exact' name of the licence I need from my re seller as are lost. I keep telling them its Office 365 Education Plus for Students but they don't appear to be able to find it.... :(

Which method are you trying? DBA with the Education A1 Plus licence or the Office 365 ProPlus for Education (device)?

The A1 Plus is not available through a reseller.

So I have it working on a pure AzureAD joined device. I can't get it working on a hybrid device further investigation required for Office 365 Proplus device activation not the older DBA.

I used this guide:

https://sysadminedu.wordpress.com/2017/01/07/step-by-step-guide-to-deploying-office-365-pro-plus-with-device-based-activation-with-sccm/

However, this week it's stopped activating them properly and I've no idea why. Most just prompt for username and password. Some are actually prompting for a device password which I've never seen before! Going to start from scratch and redeploy. Only three dats to go and running out of time!

Has anyone else had any recent problems with a previously working activations suddenly not working?

I "thought" I had it working as I FINALLY got my Office 365 A1 Plus for students licence added, OPPTRansition is reporting it is licencing the device, I can see the machines in O365 Users section and they have the hopefully correct Licenses applied but when logged in as a test non-o365 user it fails! I'm getting the feeling I might be suffering with the same issue as you @mitchell1981 !

It's driving me crazy today.

It runs through. Says it's activating. Completes the process with no errors and then when you run office. Immediately you get the 'Sign in to Office' box pop up.

Another time. It ran thorough, got to the point where it says Activating, and then pops up with a box saying 'Sign in' which is prepopulated with the device username e.g. _device_LAPTOP_122, this doesn't work as it then asks for the device account password.

Then randomly, I ran the command a third time, and it completed the activation correctly. It's so unstable that I don't know what to do! The thing is, last week it appeared to be working fine.

Just for the record I have the 'Shared Vomputer activation' mode turned off, as I believe that is only for RDP.

OK my fault earlier, I tested it using an account without the ProPlus licence appears to be licensing correctly now.. fingers cross.. testing..testing..testing

Shared Computer Activation will work on Windows 10 as long as all the users are licenced. Its general accounts that may not be licenced that can create the issue. I'm not sure if the new Device licensing gets around that issue. I can no longer activate with the old DBA method.

If the users still have to be licensed then what's the point in DBA? Doesn't it defeat the object?

I thought it was meant to allow non licensed users to use O365?

Its all very confusing!

Yes its very confusing and to confirm the user has to be assigned the correct licence as it will have a fit if it can't sign in as the user, which for us is done automatically. I guess this is why Office 2019 still exists, I'm assuming (will have to test) if it can get online when a new users opens Office for the first time things will break and report unlicensed product so worth thinking about.

We don't seem to have any issues with users without a 365 licence using Office 365 C2R.

Even if it was an issues its easy to fix as you have unlimited A1 Plus licences so just licence all your users. You can even automate it in Azure AD so that any new users are assigned a licence when synced.

We're also seeing very inconsistent activations (usually doesn't activate) of Office365 ProPlus C2R at or district since August using the older device-based activation method (using OPPTransition.exe). Was working fine with no issues before that. Symptoms much like those posted here:

-Office doesn't activate and prompts to login as the Azure device user _device_computername

-No failures in the OPPTransition logs, but when activation fails there is no entry "product key added successfully"

-An event log from the Office Licensing Service with an error basically saying there was no product key supplied -ospp.vbs /dstatus shows no product keys installed Did anyone find out anything from Microsoft about why this is failing now? Is this older DBA process on the way out? Do we need to implement the one they introduced in August with the different licensing and devices hybrid azure-ad joined? Any information would be helpful as our Microsoft partner seems to be in the dark as well.

Thanks!

I just had to parse that outcome. Activations stopped working on new and existing devices. In the past I could delete the AAD User and activation would work. So yes you'll need to move to DBL. As a temporary measure I moved to SCA. The limit for this isn't known to n terms of users moving from device to device. The challenge will be getting a 100% hybrid joined Fleet and Office up to date.

Hi SysprepMe. Don't suppose you have a link to a guide for this new method? It's the first I've heard about it!

Your problems with activation seem to be the same as ours.

So, just to clarify, using OPPTransition is the 'old' method?

Yes OPPTransition is the old method which I believe MS have stopped working at least in the UK.

I have managed to get DBL working. I had to configure these GPP settings as not every client is on Windows 1809 and the correct Office version or newer and Hybrid joined on the device level.

I've been following this thread a little bit as I hope to roll out Office 365 to replace our existing Office 2016 version. However I would just like to clear something up with you. What method do you suggest I follow for a new installation? All our devices and users and Azure AD joined / synced. However we will have a few visitors who will not have Office 365 licences. We're not 1to1 and have a number of ICT Suites which means a lot of users on the same machine.

Thanks, Rob

I would deploy it with the new DBL enabled making sure you are licenced. Test it and trial it. I've had to clean up intune as some company owned pcs were marked as personal. This is how I'm managing the Dynamic AAD Group.

Would do you mean by 'making sure you are licenced'. IE the user or are we talking a device licence? Currently all our staff and students have Office 365 Plus licences (So they can get office at home) but I want the office in school to be device based so it doesn't use up there activations and non-licenced users can still use it. My understanding is DBL is used for this. However I guess I need to get some device licences from my reseller?

Thanks

Just wanted to ask what issues people are having with DBA using OPPTransition.exe?

It still seems to be working fine for us. We did a batch of 64 laptops at the end of August with no trouble plus odd machines re-imaged since then and each time office has licensed fine?
