Please may we have the option to choose the location of the exported .DOCX, or set a default path in the same way as the save location?

This option has now been created and will appear in the next version of EWP in December.

Just started using exam writepad. It's brilliant so thanks so much. Has been a real game changer for the way we do things. A couple of questions which I couldn't find the answer to:

1. Is there anyway to bulk print exams. We currently have all our laptops backing up the exams to a hidden share. It would be great to be able to select a bunch of files and then right click print. Am I missing something or is this not possible?

2. With our backup folder on a network share is there some kind of switch or variable we can use to make the backups save to seperate folders within the share. Either folders with usernames or folders with computer name.

Thanks in advance

Yes, of course, read the documentation with regards "Command line Usage (Non-Windowed App – Run in Background)" page 34

With regards this, the folder path is absolute, but always remember, each filename is unique and contains the name of the candidate and candidate number.

Thanks for the reply. Have I set this up in a way that is not recommended to have all the exams backing up in the same place? As on the launch menu I can then recover/roll back to someone else's exam within the same share?

If this is the default backup file path then yes, that is ok.

If this is the default save path then no, because if the student clicks on open then they would have access to all the other EWP files been taken.

I think see what it is. :)

You have to add the outline to the table afterwards. I thought the grey lines were the outlines.

I am just used to the way Word works, which is to have the lines on by default.

ExamWritePad appears to have them off by default.

I can get the same results as you, I just have to add them after.

Looking forward to the new export path too. :)

Thank you.

Ah I see, no worries, all borders are off by default when creating tables so it gives the user a blank canvas starting point, when adding in the borders they want.

I’m expecting to release a new version next week. I’m in the process to setting up the code base so that I can transition it from Vb.net to C#, given the .net 5 news a few months ago. I’m also doing it with .net core in mind do there will be a possibility to run EWP natively on Linux and macOS. There may be some features that are windows only to start with as the transition progresses.

Not sure how long it will take me but I would expect we would see a working version for 2022 exams.

Mock Exam time again. I was hoping to use endpoint.microsoft.com to setup a few laptops in autosign in multi app kiosk mode but cant find the AUMID for examWritepad for the installed MSI v4.1.9.0 dose the msi not register as a app in the start menu? unfortunatly the windows cloud kiosk mode needs this AUMID number to compleate the form even though we also specifi the .exe location.

Quick update folks:

Coming in next version so far:

  • FIXED: When exiting the splash screen, if you have monitoring USB devices turn on, it would not shutdown the USB monitoring application.
  • FIXED: When exiting the splash screen, if you have the option to logoff on exit turned on, a logoff would not happen.
  • FIXED: ‘Export to DOCX’ Path is now customisable as per other paths in EWP.
  • FIXED: If ‘PasswordOnExit’ was set and ‘AutoSave’ set to off, the application would crash.
  • FIXED: If ‘PasswordOnExit’ was set, in some instances it would not exit the application or cancel the password box.
  • FIXED: Attempted changes (Pause/Stop/Restart) to the timers for ‘AutoSave’ and ‘AutoBackup’ functions will now only initialise if they are active and running in the first instance.
  • ADDED: EWP can now be run as a ‘Single Instance’ or ‘Multiple Instance’ Application for the logged in user. The default in the config using option “AllowMultipleInstances” has been set to ‘0’ = Single Instance. Set it to ‘1’ to allow Multiple instances.
  • ADDED: MSI Installer now has an AUMID for those using automated deployement systems (You may still have to create your own shortcut icons after installation).

Thanks for the latest update....the work you have done and continue to do on this app is nothing short of fantastic.

One question though..... is there no longer support for ctrl modifiers for foreign characters / accents? We haven't been able to get this to work at all since we started using v4.0.0.0

What are people doing for students that require Word Processing but are staying at home? Are you leaving it up to them to sort their own WP out or are you providing help with sorting out ExamWritePad?

I absolutely love you @ass17

Now brolove out of the way... We have been asked to allow Microsoft dictation so they can employ less scribes and for "covid reasons". I've managed to get this working but not with force fullscreen. Is there anyway this could work if force fullscreen is on. Just sits on top of the screen usually

Thanks from me and my IT Team :)

You can use the insert ascents/characters sidebar menu while I investigate.

It’s a difficult one because you can’t monitor the students so are likely to want to use Word or Docs, we have taken the line that they should use EWP given it is what they will use in their final exams. Using anything else would go against the exam board guidelines for word processors.

It seems that my reply didn’t post so will write it again... here goes

Short answer is it can’t be done. Simple reason is because full screen option is a direct replication of a kiosk style app that won’t allow users to deviate from it.

I did look into building in a dictation module but all the free ones out there are crap and don’t come anywhere near MS Word.

Wish I could offer a better answer and I would love to buy a module but they cost high hundreds, some thousands.

No probs at all. It's not the end of the day but I thought if I didn't ask etc etc

Thanks again @ass17

Hi,

I've just started using this (late to the party)...probably something really easy

Falling at the first hurdle and can't get it to work for anyone other than admins.

In the event log I have.

The description for Event ID 17181 from source Application cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer. If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event. The following information was included with the event: ExamWritePad - StartingThe message resource is present but the message was not found in the message table

I've tried the portable version too

Hopefully someone can offer some advice.

Cheers

Hi,

Can you turn in Debugapplication =1 in the config file then re-run EWP and the log file should be in the users temp folder or the windows temp folder. Then PM it over to me so I can take a look

Hi @ass17,

We have a lot of users using the key combination CTRL-B to bold their text.

Lots of them are missing the B and hitting the N.

This causes no end of confusion when they get a new (empty) document.

Is there a way of disabling the CTRL-N combination in EWP?

Thanks

I can produce a version later today that will give you the option to disable CTRL+N combo.

Please PM me your email address and I will send it later today [emoji1303]
