As an exam taker I'd rather know I'd found the button I want, but it's disabled "ah yes, because I'm not allowed to use spellcheck" or "I should be allowed, ask the teacher", than spend ages hunting for something that's not there

That's fine. Just wanted to check really that it wasn't a glitch/bug as well.

I'll let exam officer/invigilators know if they comment on it.

Still using 2.0.8.9 here but looking to roll out v3! :)

Bloody hell 2.0.8.9 you need at least 2.6.8.0 as I’m sure there is a bucket full of issues fixed between the two versions.

But because you are rolling out v3 I will let you off [emoji6][emoji1303]

Good news is all the issues raised over the last week have been addressed and sorted.

There is one caveat though, and it’s an issue with .net framework and SMB v1 shares. You might get an a series of event log errors relating to EWP not running. The only answer for this is either make sure all your shares where you run EWP from are SMB v2 or 3, but this has been known to break certain Active Directory stuff. Or run EWP from the local disk like we do, via a logonscript that copies it from a UNC path to the local hard drive.

This issue has only been introduced because for the AD Group/Feature override coming in the next version via the system.net DLL in DotNet Framework.

Hi @ass17,

Thanks as always for your hard work on this project. We've benefitted from it immensely at our school.

We've got mocks coming up in December, so we are looking to deploy EWP 3. I just wondered whether the latest download on your website (v3.0.6.0) includes the fixes you talk about above or whether a new version is imminent?

Also can I just check that V3 includes all the features from V2, and in particular the screen splitting feature that I requested and you very kindly implemented?

Thanks :-D

v3.1 will be released as per schedule the last Sunday of every month. This being the 24th, that gives you at least a week to prepare for December mocks. If there is anything that crops up from your testing then send over a bug report via examwritepad.com or post it here. I will do my up most to get the issue resolved quickly, otherwise drop back to v3.0.6.0

With regards the split screen from v2 has gone and is now replaced with the native windows snap to left or right of screen and EWP will go near to half as possible, just slightly over on some smaller screens.

That's perfect, thanks very much!

One bug I've noticed after doing a very quick test is that if you disable the find/replace button on the toolbar, you can still CTRL+F to bring up the find and replace dialog.

Ok thanks for reporting it, consider it fixed for v3.1

Hi! Just reporting an issue we're having.

We're using the newest version of ExamWritePad in our mock exams at the moment, and on two occasions now the program has frozen. We've had to switch user and end the task to get it back and running. We think this may actually be due to some students trying to use the Ctrl + F function within the program? Can't be sure though.

Cheers!

If you can get exact details for me that would be great.

Have you disabled Find and Replace function or is the button active?

Had no other reports as yet of a similar issue. CTRL+F just opens the sidebar and doesn’t nothing else that should cause an issue.

We don't have find and replace disabled so I imagine it isn't that then

Is there a way to check the crash logs for ExamWritePad? Are they stored anywhere? I'll also be sure to get as much information as I can if it happens again.

Thanks!

Nothing in normal use other than event logs if anything is thrown up in there.

You can turn on debug allocation in the config it won’t affect the running of EWP as it only captures exceptions thrown.

I’m going to release version 3.1 a few days early than planned so some of you with December Mocks can test EWP.

But please note the change log and the Please note bit at the bottom when I post it.

Thanks

Recommended Spec: Intel Core i5 or equivalent, 4GB RAM, Windows 10 (64bit)

ExamWritePad is a 64bit only application and can be run from a network location, but for best results, run from the local disk of each computer.

CHANGELOG

3.1.0.0 (20/11/2019)

· ADDED: Ability to skip the Splash Screen via config Option “Disable_SplashScreen”. Set the option to “1” to disable it.

· ADDED: Ability to Pause/Resume the extra time countdown timer in case of emergencies, candidate timeouts etc.

· FIXED: Close button on the extra timer sidebar never closes when pressed.

· FIXED: ConfigEditorGUI would not allow semi-colon to be used on the Exam Centre Number field when requiring multiple numbers to be inserted.

· FIXED: Config option ‘PrintFontColour’ did not apply in v3, any colour in the document window would have printed, thus ‘PrintFontColour’ was ignored.

· ADDED: If no ‘PrintFontColour’ is specified in the config, EWP will use whatever colours are on the document window.

· ADDED: Ability to specify an Active Directory Group and a series of overrides that will apply when launching EWP. For example, if most students do not require a spellchecker and you have disabled it in the config, you can specify an AD group name and the config option you wish to override spell checking so it is enabled for those candidates within the AD group. (See Config options for further assistance and help on setting this up.)

· ADDED: Multiple Exam Centre Names are allowed, separate each one with a semi-colon. Centre Names are set in the config only and cannot be changed at runtime.

· FIXED: Centre Number on the Candidate Information window was allowing the user to override it and set their own Centre Number. Centre Numbers are set in the config only and cannot be changed at runtime.

· FIXED: Quick Formatting panel was hidden and not appearing on previous builds.

· ADDED: ConfigEditorGUI has been updated with new config options: Override_Option_ADGroup, Override_Option_Name

· FIXED: When Find & Replace button was disabled, you could still launch it via CTRL+F key combination.

· ADDED: If you have filled in the all the Candidate Details and decide to start a new document, you will now get asked if you wish to use the same details or start with no details.

· ADDED: Right-click on the ruler bar and you now have the options for document TAB position markers. Left click on the ruler bar and it will still place a TAB position marker as normal.

· ADDED: New button on the insert ribbon called “Symbol”, allowing to quickly access special symbols/characters like copyright, trademark etc… This has also been added to the ConfigEditorGUI to allow you to disable like other buttons.

· ADDED: When you click ‘Print’ and the Candidate Information appears to fill in the remaining details, when you ‘Save & Exit’, the Print sidebar now appears without having to press the Print button again, but only if all the candidate details are filled in.

KNOWN ISSUE – If EWP doesn’t run from an UNC share/mapped drive, it is an issue with .Net framework and SMB v1 shares. If you disabled SMB v1 support, then it might break the AD authentication on the clients where it has been removed. At this point your only option is to run EWP from the local hard disk.

Quick Minor Update folks.

3.1.1.0 (25/12/2019)

• FIXED: EWP would not exit after the document modification message box upon closing, when the splash screen was enabled.

• ADDED: If you hide the ribbon bar using the toggle switch, when you click on a tab, the ribbon bar will re-open and when you return focus to the document window, the ribbon bar will hide itself again. This mimics exactly how Microsoft Word handle a hidden ribbon bar.

• CHANGED: The minimum width of the main window has been reduced from 925 to 800 (tweaked a few button sizes), to allow those the windows snap screen feature a true 50/50 split. This is based on a minimum screen resolution of 1600x900. Anything lower than this will render the app snapped with EWP as very narrow and useless. This is because the ribbon bar is not currently designed to allow for dynamic resizing hence the fixed minimum application width of 800.

Get you update from the usual place (in app update check or www.examwritepad.com)

Hi,

Just a couple of minor bits I've found this morning...

1. Spelling mistake on candidate info screen, should be 'Centre' not 'Center'

2. Is it possible for the centre number and centre name to be pre-populated when there is only one option in the list? I've added our centre details to the config which makes it appear in the combo box, but for single centre schools it would be fab to avoid those extra clicks

3. Mute audio doesn't work for us when specified in the config. You see the volume control appear on the screen momentarily on open but it doesn't mute

The new software is looking great by the way, a much cleaner interface. We are testing with the exams department tomorrow so will let you know if there is anything to feed back.

Leave them with me and I will investigate and report back.
