swmenzies Posted June 7, 2018 Posted June 7, 2018 Can you use bold / italic. That's what we do. Our SENCo has reported to me that she asks the pupils to highlight extra time as italic. However the italic text is not printing and resets back to normal text on screen after the print process. I have tested this myself and it does behave in the manor. I've just tested it with the latest (2.1.4.5) and previous version we were using (2.1.3.5). Any suggestions welcomed. Thanks, Scott
ass17 Posted June 7, 2018 Author Posted June 7, 2018 Italic should print so i will check it out when I back from sunny Spain! Expect something next week if it is a known bug... Thanks for reporting it
swmenzies Posted June 7, 2018 Posted June 7, 2018 (edited) How Nice! It might be an PCL / PS driver issue. I'll post my findings. Thanks and enjoy Edit... Just tested with a PCL6 and a PS driver for the same printer. The PS prints the italic and retains the formatting but the PCL6 doesn't. Scott Edit 2.... Bold prints with PCL6 Underlined prints with PCL6 italic does not print with PCL6 mix of bold or underlined with italic prints with PCL6 Scott Edited June 7, 2018 by swmenzies

RLR Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 I'm seeing similar with 2.1.4.5. We're seeing all formatting reset after sending a document to print. We currently have double lined spacing setup by default but once you send a job to print, it reverts back to single and removes all bolded formatting.
pamplemousse123 Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 Good morning. Thank you for making this available. We're using 2.1.4.5 and have noticed that when trying to look at previous versions they aren't showing in chronological order. Please see following... Would it be possible to change the sorting order to make it easier to find the latest automatic backup? Many thanks. Andy

[ATTACH=CONFIG]49235[/ATTACH] Would it be possible to change the sorting order to make it easier to find the latest automatic backup? Many thanks. Andy This caught me out a couple weeks ago. A student lost some work so I looked through previous versions and the latest one I found was missing a whole paragraph. As the exam was going on in the room I didn't want to hang about and said this seems to be the latest version. The student got very upset and had to leave the room. I decided to sit down and look a bit harder and realised that the last number was a 9 and having worked in IT for a few years, I realised that sometimes (in excel and other programs) lists can be out of place due to the way a computer reads 10 as 1 and 0. I know for next time but would be good to have it in order for anyone else that comes across this.
ass17 Posted June 8, 2018 Author Posted June 8, 2018 I see yes. The the ordering in number order is being confused with the lack of a preceding 0 on single numbers. I will sort this out ASAP as soon as I’m back in work next week. Labelled this issue as high on the list [emoji1303] Thanks for letting me know.
ashley46666 Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 Hi ,you wouldn't know happen to know where the auto save folder is after installing version 2089,weve only been using this for a couple of days after having to ditch word in an because of the glitches, we love this program however we cant find the auto save file destination, and would like to be able to cut the 60 mins access time to previous versions down to 30 mins if possible. Any help would be most welcome Hi, If you have not specified it in the config file, then the folder defaults to: c:\programdata\examwritepad With regards the access time in can put a config option in to set your own time not a problem, I will add it to the list. Regards Andy
pearsonh Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 This is an excellent bit of software and we have been using it with much success for both internal and external exams. We now have the situation where a pupil who is eligible for a scribe has decided to word process their exams and is thus eligible to use a spell checker. We could use a locked down version of word but doesn't have all the other nice features that this has. Is there any way to incorporate a spell checker? Clearly the ability to have it turned on/off would need some tight control but I am sure you could come up with a pretty robust solution for that.

It a massive project to do it, not to mention that grammar checking is also allowed with a scribe, so I would have to incorporate both. The short term answer is use Microsoft Word for scribe specific things where you know SPAG will be used. I can’t promise but I have delivered 99.9999% of what has been asked for [emoji1303][emoji1]

Just to say thank you very much as others have said, but also +1 for the above. We would also like a spell checker & grammar option. Look forward to seeing it when you have the time.
fiza Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 Just downloaded the latest version. Thanks @ass17. To save me trawling through the posts can someone tell me what the USBMonitor.exe does please? I guess it monitors for insertion of USB sticks?

I guess it monitors for insertion of USB sticks? Here you go: Monitor USB connections This is to detect any form of cheating by means of generating screenshots every 3 seconds as evidence. Set a new config option called "MonitorUSBDevices" to 1 for on and 0 for off. All screenshots are kept in the "\ProgramData" folder for example: "C:\ProgramData\ExamWritepad\ExamWritepad_USBMonitor". The screenshots are created when a USB drive is plugged in, unplug it and the screenshots stop. Each screen shot varies from 50kb to 90kb in jpg format. 1
fiza Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 When I ran exam writepad it asked me to run the usbmonitor.exe separately. what happens if a student doesn't run it and presses cancel instead?
ass17 Posted June 8, 2018 Author Posted June 8, 2018 (edited) When I ran exam writepad it asked me to run the usbmonitor.exe separately. what happens if a student doesn't run it and presses cancel instead? It would run if you press cancel. You need ideally to turn off UAC so that it doesn't prompt for applications to run or if you don't want to turn it off completely try these below: https://www.raymond.cc/blog/task-scheduler-bypass-uac-prompt or https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/29033599/UAC-GPO-to-allow-a-specific-program-to-run-without-prompting.html Edited June 8, 2018 by ass17 1
ass17 Posted June 9, 2018 Author Posted June 9, 2018 So far, I have successfully done the following and will release a new build tomorrow or Monday. FEATURE: Application Debugging New Config Option called "DebugApplication" has been created with default of 0 If you are having issues on startup change the option to 1, re-run EWP and please post the log file so I can see what is going on. Eventually the whole program will capture ALL events for debugging but for the time being its only startup. FIXED: Ordering or backup previous versions The the ordering in number order is being confused with the lack of a preceding 0 on single numbers. ADDED: Config option to display so many previous versions Config option "PreviousVersionsRecoveryMinutesDisplay" default 60 (In minutes only) FIXED: issues with all formatting reverting back to normal Formatting text options and line spacing options, including config double line spacing options would reset back to to normal after printing ADDED: More help on HELP Window Copy tips to help like CTRL-TAB will indent writing Still to do is: Spell Checker 2

6Foot2 Posted June 11, 2018 Posted June 11, 2018 Change request: We have found that once you have started the program you are locked into it until you have completed the fields on the Candidate Information Screen of Exam WritePad: We like that students are prevented from looking at other programs once Exam WritePad has started (fills the screen) but our Exams Co-Ordinator said to me this morning that she had started several laptops, due to network issues that sorted themselves eventually and so did not need them all, and found that she could not shut down the surplus laptops unless she put dummy data into the Candidate Information Screen. She asked me to ask if this could be changed. Thanks.
Garacesh Posted June 11, 2018 Posted June 11, 2018 she could not shut down the surplus laptops unless she put dummy data into the Candidate Information Screen. Alt+F4 closes that window without needing to put any info in, and then you can exit the program as normal (or just Alt+F4 again) From a personal perspective I'd say just do that.. The less on-screen options we give users to cause problems with, the better.

If the answer is no that's not a problem as there is a workable answer already.
