al_acrity Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 Hi, I was hoping to use this amazing software for a BTEC Controlled Assessment, but I don't seem to be able to type letters into the candidate number box. As this is a BTEC assessment, you need to use the BTEC Registration number which begins with a letter. Any chance this can be addressed? Cheers, Al

Cheers, Al Your wish is now my command, the option has been provide in the form of a config setting: In your config file add a new setting as shown below in BOLD underneath the last in your file but before . 1 Setting the value to 0 will result in numbers only. Setting the value to 1 will result in Alpha-numeric. RLR Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 (edited) When I open Previous Versions on the Exam Write pad it's not giving me any options? I can see there are files in the ExamWritePad backup location (examtextbackup files) but I can't open them? Figured I can change the file extension and open them. It seems the config file is set to save every minute but this isn't happening? It seems to auto save feature isn't working at the moment. EDIT: After some further testing. I think something in the config file is causing the auto save not to work for me as opening the software with a default config profile works fine.. Possibly prompting users to enter their details when the software loads as it asks them to save once they have done this. Possbily something to do with 1 Edited January 11, 2018 by RLR
caffrey Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 Thanks for this, I've found a reproducible bug - if you zoom in and out using the shortcut keys and go too far in either direction it will crash (You can continue working though)

Possbily something to do with 1 Thanks for the feedback, the previous versions will only work with the following three conditions: 1. Previous version backups are only visible to the software within one hour of creation date/time (This was deliberate to stop people in the afternoon exam seeing peoples work in the morning exam). 2. The backup location has to be that of the current build of the software you are running (for example Im running v2.1.1.1 so the correct path it will look in is: C:\ProgramData\ExamWritePad\ExamWritePad\2.1.1.1\) 3. The auto save and auto backup are only done when there is activity with in writing window. If you stop writing, after the next autosave/auto backup, it stops the timer and does not restart it until you start writing again. No changes, no backup or save required effectively speaking... Please can you retest with the three above conditions in mind while I also test your theory, and let me know of your outcome. I suspect you are correct but just need to make sure and corners are covered :-)

New version will be released this week, watch out for it...

As soon as I turn the value to 0 and manually save, the autosave feature starts working again. Are you able to replicate this? Might be a combination of things in my config that I can provide if needed.
ass17 Posted January 16, 2018 Author Posted January 16, 2018 Yes I can with the one option you stated set to 1. I will look to find and quash the bug :-)

RLR Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 Quick question about the backup path. Do we have to manually add the version number to the backup path in the config file? I can see a folder is automatically created that goes by the version name but files are not being saved in this folder. They are still be saved directly into the folder path which is in the config profile: C:\ProgramData\ExamWritePad

chrispaget Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 Just started using the software, its excellent! I have noticed one bug though, when you press the insert key (or ins) the warning appears that you are in overwrite mode and press insert to deactivate it, but pressing insert to deactivate the warning doesn't deactivate the overwrite mode, you then have to press insert twice again to deactivate it, can this be fixed?

mavhc Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 Does anyone ever use Overwrite mode? 99.99% of the time it just annoys you. MSWord has disabled it since at least 2010
ass17 Posted January 17, 2018 Author Posted January 17, 2018 In all honesty I might hook it and disable it at low level :-)
ass17 Posted January 18, 2018 Author Posted January 18, 2018 (edited) 2.1.1.6 Added - **NEW FEATURE** Monitor USB connections for any USB hard drive or Memory Stick. This is to detect any form of cheat by means of generating screenshots every 3 seconds as evidence. Set a new config option called "MonitorUSBDevices" to 1 for on and 0 for off. All screnshots are keep in the "\ProgramData" folder for example: "C:\ProgramData\ExamWritepad\ExamWritepad_USBMonitor". The screenshots are created when a USB drive is plugged in, unplug it and the screenshots stop. Each screen shot varies from 50kb to 90kb in jpg format. 2.1.1.5 Fixed - INSERT key detection had to be pressed twice to fully disable the insert function. Disabled the INSERT key fully now and no INSERT ket detection window appears when pressing the INSERT key. In essence, pressing the insert key now will do nothing. 2.1.1.4 Fixed - Opening a previous saved file from the "File -> Open" Menu would cause an string reference error message to display if not using encryption. The input is ignored?
ass17 Posted January 18, 2018 Author Posted January 18, 2018 To clarify: Pressing insert will no longer result in character-overwriting at all? The input is ignored? Correct, the insert does diddly-squat, nothing at all :-) 2
