Already plundered of anything good, although I could have easily stocked up on rubbish I probably have lots of anyway, nothing jumped out at me. The only thing of note was an ultrasonic cleaner marked up at 159.99 Quick on-site google showed the same model available for 120 from just about anywhere else, with a usable warranty so glad I didn't go on impulse! I was vaguely hoping to see some electronic starter kits, some 18650 cell stuff, chargers etc but nada

Saw a few things I was tempted by, Googled and found them cheaper, with warranty, largely from Amazon. (Then realised I really didn't need a cheap drone, cardboard robot, proprietary CCTV system, micro HDMI cable etc etc).
Fazza Posted June 4, 2018 Posted June 4, 2018 I ordered a USB charging cable for my Gamin watch this morning from Amazon for £3.95 and it was delivered the same day around 7pm so no wonder Maplin was unable to survive when it's online competitors offer this level of service!

What little is left is going for peanuts - most cables (mains, signal, data) are fifty pence or a quid, got an aerial signal meter for under four quid, and a 3m BT to RJ11 cable was a mere FOUR NEW PENCE!!!!!!! Sad day though, as despite their usual high prices, at least it was a place to go to get (or browse for) things that you only occasionally needed mb

Very similar products and branding etc. I'm sure they were connected. The fact both used to sell the value brand 'realistic' products is probably a give away too.

It was my favourite part of the store as I always dipping into stock for random connectors for latest projects

(Plus I can obtain plenty of sub £1 items in those shops too)

I guess they were being used/nicked for nefarious purposes. mikeprice Posted June 11, 2018 Posted June 11, 2018 A business concept of 'it's all £1' was always going to run into problems eventually as inflation keeps eating away at the £ Still - they seem to have lasted a lot longer than I ever expected and they are a great place to tell kids to get headphones from for the classes that need them (a few mentions of ear infections, ear wax etc etc normally curbs use of the school headphones)
DJ-1701 Posted June 14, 2018 Posted June 14, 2018 Maplin in Swindon closed it's doors to the public for the last time yesterday morning... someone went in in the morning the last day and bought everything remaining. According to staff, the rest of the Maplin stores that are still open will be closed for good sometime during the weekend.
