Law 16.3.1.2 - a match shall be lost by a side which in the opinion of the umpires refuses to play. If so, the umpires shall award the match to the other side.

I can understand the idea of recording a match, but actually live streaming it seems excessive.

Nearly had a batter timed out last week !

Not had that one … yet!

Towards the end of the first innings the number 11 hadn't bothered to get changed thinking he wouldn't have to bat. Sudden flurry of wickets, after a long delay he comes out of the pavilion carrying most of his kit, gets most of it on, sets off for the wicket. Stops on the way to finish doing up a pad, then stops again to chat to the non-striker. Gets to the wicket and decides he needs the sightscreen moved. Both sides were desperately hoping he'd get timed out if only for the laughs. Sadly the fielding side forgot you still have to appeal ! Then after all that he was out first ball !

Amazing how many of them think that as long as they’re on the field of play, that’s all that matters!

It never ceases to amaze me how many players have no clue about the laws.

Just found out that the club hosting the game that I'm umpiring on Saturday are hoping to live stream the game ! No pressure there then ! Wondering if I'll get anyone waving a mobile phone at me in the bar afterwards.

How did it go?

I have made the (probably unwise) decision that I really want to play again. Since my former club is sadly no more, I looked around for someone who looked suitably desperate. The captain's reaction to my skills ? 'Hooray, a willing umpire !' Managed to justify that with a 30 over stint.

Playing my first full season this year since i was was 18 (i'm now in my 30s). First match tonight, wonder how my body has changed in the last 14 years... Update tomorrow

Update:

Batting : 1 off 28 balls. Most i've hit in one game just not enough power. Would of been 2 if i ran instead of thinking the square leg umpire was a player (wearing same colours)

Bowling: 1 over, 1 run (which should of been a catch) and 2 wides.

Overall happy over last year. have a month before next game so going to get some practice and exercise in.

That's a tidy over you bowled, I'd be very happy if any of my overs went for 3

I've just started training again (for the first time in 10 years), threw some dodgy off-spin into a net for 2 hours, and my shoulder still feels like it's about to fall off!

1st game of the new season,

Batting: 1 off 3 then out off my glove....

Bowling: 2 overs, hit for 24.... including 3 6's in a row...

Won the match though by 6 runs!

Congratulations on being on the winning team !

Barring umpiring a friendly in April I haven’t made it onto the pitch this season.

My attempt to revive my playing career last season merely served to prove to me that my reasons for retiring in the first place were still valid 🤣

2nd Match

Hit 15 (2 4s, including my first every boundary followed by 2nd ever boundary!) then got run out

Couldn't bowl as my leg had gone but more than happy with my batting improvement!

Well done Dalek!

I'm playing my third ever game on Saturday - ended up 5 n/o last time around, so looking to extend my infinite average!!

Do you bowl normally? I've just started bowling properly again

I tend to yea, but only when the teams doing well, i stuggle a lot with nerves, my battling was improved a lot purely down to having a can of cider before hand to lessen my nerve.... (I do not approve of this method)

I remember this being a populr method when I was involved with cricket.

Well done to all of you. Played my first game of the season (had a lot going on that's prevented me from playing until now) last Saturday in serious heat, luckily with a decent breeze. Was guesting for another team. Survived fielding first, was not invited to bowl (very wise of them). Was very surprised at tea to be invited to open the batting (I normally do but didn't think they knew that). Sadly only scored 5 before being caught at slip off a ball that nearly decapitated me (dodgy wicket moment).

Trying to see if I can get a game this Saturday or might take up a late offer to dust off my umpiring qualifications and do an official top level Norfolk game !

I find if you drink one cider it can help relax you, if you drink many that helps even more as you then get a choice of balls to hit !

The trick is only to drink if you are fielding first, if you are batting first you will regret the decision when standing in the field half cut

That is often a consideration at the toss if the bar is open. If it is, field. Then enjoy the erratic bowling in the second innings 😀

Had a nice little reunion at a league game on Saturday. My previous team folded at the end of 2022. There were five former players at the game. Two on each side and one spectator. Funnily enough there were also five former players from my previous, previous team as well (though two post dated my departure).
