It may seem stupid and easy to some of you, but I've never really dealt with Exchange so please bare with me.

At a site with SBS server running with Exchange on it, they have accounts@ going to a users email address.

Now they want another user getting the accounts@ emails forwarded to them.

I've looked in AD and can't see any user or group that has the email accounts@ so therefore can't find if its just basic forwarding using the delivery options tab. I also can't find any distro groups called accounts@ to add this user as a member.

Where else could I look? Basically accounts@ has to go to user1@ and user2@

Any help is appreciated.

Cheers

Use the find option in exchange ad.

change the Search from users, etc to Exchange and a load of exchange specific search options will appear

yep, done that, searched and it lets you search for users with mailboxes and groups etc. but no easy way of finding where the options for accounts@ are

an you want one users e-mail forwarded onto another?

No, we need any email sent to accounts@ going to two seperate users. I know I could just create a distro group but obviously something is already in place as accounts@ is already going to a single user. So if I could find where this accounts@ info is I could hopefully just add another recipient.

i mean there must be something in exchange or active dir already that says any mail that goes to accounts@ is the forwarded on to user1@.

i need it to be changed to be forwarded to user1@ and user2@

i need to find this information to be able to edit it.

I cannot find anything mentioning accounts@ as an email address, a user or a group, so I cannot edit it

so you want to find the e-mail address of a users or group?

or do you want to forward something onto a user but still deliver the message to the indented recipients mailbox?

i might have to put this on hold as the information i'm getting from the site is sounding sketchy at best.

i've now been told they want user2@ emails forwarding to accounts@. but accounts@ might not exist.

i love remote support :p

Accounts is probably an smtp alias. In the "email addresses" tab for the user that is already receiving it (will need to check from the exchange server or a machine with the exchange managment tools installed). If it's just a second address then I'm not sure you can just use it again as it's in use. Probably going to need a distribution list in that case

This has totally lost me lol, how can you send it to a mailbox that does not exist?

exactly. i thought they were asking for accounts@ to forward to two accounts. now its that they want a users email to forward to accounts, but aren't sure if it exists. GAH!

AHA! Checked in the users addresses and there is an smtp alias in there for accounts@

Thanks for that.

And thanks FN for bearing through this madness :D

Think I understand what you mean, in Outlook if you open a new email, click 'To', find the accounts@ group that you want to edit the members of, right click, and say properties, then hit Modify members. From there you should be able to add/remove members from that particular group email address which should get around having to find it in AD.

Worth mentioning though that email distribution groups can also be security groups, so if you are adding/removing members it is probably worth checking that you're not giving users access to files/folders they shouldn't have access to!

Hope this makes sense and is of some help!

Simple option is to either use a distribution group if you want the emails to go to more than 1 user. To move emails from user2@ to accounts@ just delete the SMTP alias from user2's account and add it in to the accoutns@ option and it will do the rest all new mail to user 2 will go to accounts @ automaticall.
