Pixel2 - any views?

As I've had to resurrect my Nexus 4 since my Nexus 5x has just been sent off to repair the Bootloop issue, I think nows the time to consider upgrading and trading in the 5X once it comes back.

 

So, I'd like to stick with the Nexus/Pixel range, however the Pixel 2 is a chunk above what I've paid for a phone in a long time - anyone using a Pixel 2 at the moment and recommend it or recommend anything else?

Have you considered OnePlus 5T? It is near stock Android, good specs and cheaper.

 

I went from an iPhone 6 to OnePlus 3. I have never looked back. I had a Samsung Galaxy at one time and hated the software.

Just moved from a Nexus 5 to a Pixel 2 XL. So far it's been great. Good deal as well. £37.99 per month at Mobiles.co.uk with 15GB data on EE. As I was paying £22 for my SIM only contract per month, the phone cost is £435. Add Quidco cashback in (£35) and it reduces the total further.

Ouch; that's a lot of cash! Haven't looked back getting my OnePlus3, and have been using a tenner a month goodybag with GiffGaff for nigh on 2 years. Happy as larry with both and makes it hard to understand how someone pays nearly £40 a month for phoneage - unless they talk a HELL of a lot! (mine's mostly data)

Just upgraded from an original Nexus 5 to a Nokia 6. Not the same specs as a Pixel2, obviously, but at £200, with pretty much stock Android, I'm loving it!!

My contract is dead cheap at £8.99 a month and I always just buy whatever phone I like, just seems a lot of money to fork out that I haven't spent since I bought my original Nexus One phone when it came out.

 

It's a shame because I like the Nexus 5X however now discovering that Bootloop is a common flaw that can occur at any time I'm less inclined to keep it for the 3 years I normally would - 18 months isn't very long.

Have a look at the original Pixel phone, A year old and still gets updates.

 

Not as high end specs but still a stock Android phone.

 

Ive had it since launch and it is still as good as new.

Just changed my 4+ year old nexus 5. Was still very happy with nexus 5 and reluctant to change it but battery was needing charging twice a day, and was bit anxious not having had any security updates for about a year. Got a sim-free Nokia 8 now, pleasantly surprised with it, only grumble is that there's no notification LED on it. It immediately downloaded every month's security update when started, and (albeit using a foreign VPN to trick it) got it on Oreo now. Nokia also promised the Nokia 8 will be upgraded to Android 9 when that comes out from what I've heard. Driver for me was I wanted quick and regular security updates and from a quick look at the market Nokia was the only one I felt might deliver on that for the longterm (apart from the Pixels which are overpriced for me). Gambling Nokia 8 is going to last me a good 3+ years, but I do wonder if it's worth the extra compared to Nokia 6 at half the price.

This was pretty much my situation. I wanted a phone that would get updates reasonably promptly, with a commitment to put out upgrades to later Android versions, which seems to be one the Nokia USPs. Feels like the only contender for a Nexus replacement, imho, once you factor in the price (the idea of spending £700+ on a phone seems ludicrous to me, especially if it's still only getting 3 years of support).

Well Carphone Warehouse have a good deal on the Pixel 2 right now £529 + a free Google home mini - that is around £90 cheaper than anything I saw for it on Black Friday (plus a free Google home mini).

 

In fact I am seriously tempted by this myself as HTC are no longer updating my M9.
