Anyone using Edge?

Just wondering how many out there are using (i.e allowing for staff and students) Edge in their environment?

 

Currently we're providing IE11 and Chrome, and I'm tempted to kill off IE11 and let Edge be a second choice. However it seems seems to be very lacking in group policy settings (nothing to stop users going into the advanced settings/proxy etc)

 

At least Chrome provides fairly comprehensive administrative templates - edge only seems to offer about 30 settings

Many of the Edge GP settings are under Computer rather than USer, which is a PITA but better than nothing.

Yeah, I've been looking at the computer settings, but there's not many in there! Still can't configure it to the degree you can with IE or Chrome.

I've been allowing the use of it on a few sites and its working well BUT I am moving over to Chrome as a big deal breaker for us is not allowing the classic print dialog box which is needed for photocopier codes etc.

 

Also as you have said Chrome has much more GPO settings available.

I have IE11 + Firefox ESR in my Citrix Image. Everything is avalible on Desktops inc Chrome Enterprise, Firefox ESR and Opera Stable via SCCM.

Certainly when I was finessing my "no internet for you" GP which basically blocks the launch of IE and Chrome for users in the appropriate group I couldn't see an easy way to block Edge, which they have access to in the newer machines, as it was all Computer policies. However they couldn't get to the proxy settings and setting the proxy to my "Sumdog and School email only" pac in IE via GPO seemed to apply to Edge.

We just use Chrome these days. Every GPO setting is there that is needed.

 

EDGE will take years to catch up, if ever.

I use IE and Chrome - Edge isn't great at the moment and has a long way to go to be Enterprise ready!

A lot of the settings seem to apply, but not when locking down the gui, so you can’t stop them going into the advanced settings like you could on IE policies.

What's the worst that could happen? There's not a lot of things they could mess up in Edge.

True, and maybe I’m being old fashioned but I don’t even like them having the facility to get into stuff they don’t need to. Edge is a step backwards for network management. Why do students need to get into proxy settings?
