Had a quick look and doesn’t look like anyone has mentioned this yet. Sadly it won’t make Xmas this year and is due out early 2018. In my opinion it is missing some big classic games but that wouldn’t stop me getting one. Would be better if you could download other missing games, but I doubt it will be able to do this.

Still got mine in the loft

That was my first computer of my own - used to spend all day programming mainframes then come home and program games on that

Only game I ever bought for it was Scramble64 - rubbish but I played it endlessly!

My first computer was Windows 98 so I fancy a crack at some of these older computers that kicked everything off. However I think I will be very disappointed and get board quickly. Might just carry on watching the 8 Bit Guy

the real ones yeah if youve never had to load software from tape for 20 mins (then find it diddnt like the volume level and dies) its a real shock to the system tbh even if you have nowadays its awful

I have such fondness for the Commodore 64. Many many hours spent loading games, many more spent playing them.

Elite, New Zealand Story, Bubble Bobble, Flimbo's Quest, Paradroid. Games that informed a large chunk of my childhood!

Tempted to get one just for the improved loading times, but I still have a perfectly working C64 in the attic!

I have a 7 year old son, so buying one would give him an idea of what I used to play as a youngster. I'm not hopeful though as he wouldn't give my original gameboy the time or day and just said it was rubbish.

I had the Amstrad CPC 464 and then the Amiga 500.

Apart from the tape issues mentioned above the other problem would be coding in basic from badly printed books. You could not copy code from some website site and paste it in your program. Back then Boots (chemist) did computer games and basic coding books. I would spend weeks typing in code from a badly printed book only for it to crash out saying error in line .... but when checking that line in the book it was typed in as they had it printed.

If it's that tempting why not just set up retropi. All the goodness, none of the waiting.

I can't be bothered setting it all up if I am honest.

Still got my VIC 20 with a switchable 3/8/16k expansion pack, the original tape deck and joystick, Donkey Kong on cartridge and Jet Pack on tape. Still worked the last time I powered it up :)

Half the fun back then was waiting for the following months C&VG magazine to come out with the amendments to last months code section so you could get Tank Battle to finally run before getting bored after 5 mins

At least you'll be able to use it as a punishment. "It'll be the GameBoy for you if you're not careful!"

Pretty much a 3 step process. 1. Buy Pi. 2. Download retropi image 3. Install to SD card and play.

I think I am getting old. When I get home, I don't want to be fiddling around with computers. I wan't to relax :)

I'd say it's all like that anyway these days :D You can't even just buy a console, plug it into the back of your spare 14" TV via an RF modulator switch, whack a cartridge in an play. Gotta be hooked up to your internet, updates downloaded, then game inserted, updates downloaded... :(

The gaming industry turning in to Hollywood with all their "reboots"? NES Mini, SNES Mini, Mega Drive - I'm waiting for Nintendo's new hand held replacement for the DS, I heard a rumour it's gonna be called the Game Boy! I can even imagine it not being bundled with Tetris due to licensing reasons! :p

Also, will the Commodore 64 Mini come with true to life realism with the 50 minute game loading times? I remember my dad would let me go and play on the computer for an hour. By the time the game had finished loading for 50 minutes, my play time was up!

i suspect the biggest issue with c64 is that i bet most of the games were published by companies that no longer exist or have been bought so many times over the years even if the game is owned by to pick a random company ubisoft they probably dont know/care
