Microsoft Office on iPads

Hi guys,

 

Was just wondering if anyone had found a way to use Microsoft Office apps on an iPad without having to sign in with a Microsoft account.

 

We don't have O365 here yet, I was thinking I would make a normal Microsoft account and use that with the apps for the time being. However, I can't see a way of setting up a single Microsoft account in Profile Manager for batch log ons.

 

Another way I was considering was applying an app configuration, but I don't think that would be easy either!

 

Has anyone else attempted the same?

Think you need an active subscription with Microsoft to use not just an account.

Have just tested and that does look like the case annoyingly! I always thought it was free on iPads?

 

In that case, does anyone know of any free office apps that are compatible with MS Office? Was going to research Apples offering but don't think it outputs anything compatible with MS Office?

I think you need an account as it saves directly to onedrive, same as the "word online" etc. If you only need to be able to read documents you can press skip on the sign in prompts to get it in read only mode, but no idea if there's a way to pre-set it or not.

Ah that could be why....we have the new 2017 iPads, I don't have one to hand to double check the screen size but would bet it's bigger!!

Google drive on android can create word docs etc. Not sure about the iPad version.

Aren’t most iPads 9.7” unless you’re going for the pro ? ( I confess my fan bio status is not up to date

 

Office 365 is free for education of course - but we needed to add a subscription in to our OVS licences to allow us to sign in on world for iPad.

Pages, Keynote and Numbers can save in or open Word,Excel and Powerpoint..

Pages, Keynote and Numbers can save in or open Word,Excel and Powerpoint..

This + Google Docs/sheets/slides but going between different formats can cause files to be distorted. Some conversion issues can occur, especially with word tables and formulas.

Just sign up for Office365, will take less time to get that running and sync AD to it than anything else.
