Connect mac to xp box ?

I dont suppose anyone has a "how to guide.." on how to setup a P2P network between a mac and an xp sp 2 box so that I can navigate my xp box and copy and paste stuff from my xp box to my mac ie music etc so I can listen to music on the go , I also have my nano and want to keep it mac formatted so I can transfer some of the stuff to the nano.

 

also on the mac how do you format the nano so it uses the mac os filing system. I cant remember what its called lol.

Are you've Mac and XP machines already on the same network?

 

If so, just enable Windows file sharing on your mac:

 

System Preferences > Sharing > Windows Sharing

 

Then from the Windows PC you can access your mac user area via \\ipaddress\username

From the Mac Finder, you want to Connect to Server on the Go menu, then enter \\windowsboxname\sharename and that should do what you want!

I kinda have the same problem. I had it working fine until i replaced my machine

Re configured it with static ip addies, went into directory access and made sure that SMB/CIFS was enabled and I had both firewalls on my xp box and mac enabled and disabled both with exceptions ( on the mac exceptions for FTP, windows file sharing another sharing one ( not sure of the exact name) and SMB / CIFS. On the xp box I allowed FTP and the networking p2p.

 

then i disabled both firewalls and none of it helped yet.

 

I tried it using the smb command with the ip addy and the computer name and also the computer name and share name and ive tried adding a password to the xp account im logging into and without a password and it still gives me errors so i cant make head or tails of what exactly it is I am supposed to do to get this to work (

To answer the iPod format question...if you plug it into your Mac it should detect it is Windows format and ask you if you want to format it when iTunes opens. If not use iPod Updater...that will do it.
