Sharepoint Intranet Staff & Students

Hi all,

 

I am looking to create a staff and student intranet site for:

links to main sites (Show My Homework etc)

sharing resources

Announcements and News

Document library

 

We have Office 365 so it makes sense to use Sharepoint. Can anyone recommend a good guide/tutorial for Sharepoint? I have looked but they all seemed to be for the old sharepoint.

 

Any advice would be appreciated, like what kind of site to use Team or Communication? I assume Team.

We've written our own. Very custom for the school needs and how the school works. Linked to Active Directory and has all class information from SIMS, student timetable etc. Staff can set homework for the classes they teach, they can also set revision. Upload documents etc etc. Students can print export the homework as a PDF with links back to the homework as a QR Code. I always said I would never write a homework system, but seeing how much companies charge it hasn't taken long to write, and from the feedback we have had from new staff actually offers more is is more reliable that other showing "homework" systems.

Transparent authentication when in school so it just logs in.

 

Jut in the process of writing the parent portal to keep everybody happy.

Is this using O365 Sharepoint or onsite Sharepoint? If using O365 how is transparent auth setup? This is my biggest bugbear at the moment, students and staff having to login to get to the intranet.

I expect you'd need ADFS for transparent login.

Sorry, should have been clearer in my post, it's written using PHP + MySQL. Authentication against Active Directory looking at AD Groups membership for permissions. But for what you want to do setup ADFS. It will solve all of your problems, well not all but your authentication problems!

We had ADFS and moved on to Seamless SSO. May have to move back.
