sted Posted October 17, 2017 Posted October 17, 2017 Mine's done, importing into MDT now... ...thinking about it that's a good point, going to need an updated ADK etc. for it too i thought ms had said going forward adk updates wouldnt be required? and it would only be updated as new features were added to the adk itself?

Norphy Posted October 17, 2017 Posted October 17, 2017 I've installed it from the ISO over my existing install of 1703 This time around, it hasn't re-enabled Cortana and it's respected the fact that I deprovisioned apps and it hasn't reprovisioned them. They've changed the wallpaper for the logon screen (it's a nicer one imo but anyway...) but other than that, there are no differences that reach out and grab me.

The biggest changes you will notice are around the Windows Defender control panel, have a look at the Exploit Protection now that EMET is integrated into the OS.

We've needed the placeholder functionality for years and the Drive Mapper scripts never really cut the mustard performance or reliability-wise (WebDAV is a horrible protocol). Out the box it comes with "version 2016", which after updating changes to "version 2017" with the Files on Demand options. I wonder if we need to manually update the client at image time to make sure it starts off with the correct version for Files on Demand? The update seems to install per-user as well which is weird. Also note this for people on older Windows 10 releases FIles On-Demand will only work with the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update as we have added features and functionality that requires engineering on the Windows side as well as the OneDrive side. For this reason, we won't be back porting this to earlier versions of Windows 7, 8 or 10. We are looking at bringing Files On-Demand to Mac. I could only get version 17.3.6998.830 of the OneDrive client from the official download page which is currently the latest release according to this page. Apparently "OneDrive Files On-Demand requires Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (version 16299.15 or later) and OneDrive build 17.3.7064.1005 or later." which I managed to find and download via an insider link. 1

A few tweaks I'll have to make such as removing the people icon, I've already found the reg key for that. I'm disappointed the settings page visibility GPO isn't per user yet. I'll have to upgrade my ADK tomorrow now that it is out. Any word on the 1709 ADMX files or should I just copy up from the client install?

Michael Posted October 17, 2017 Posted October 17, 2017 One of the first things I noticed - Files on Demand only works with 1709, but isn't included with 1709. Who at Microsoft made that decision!? Talk about an oversight! As far as I can tell, onedrive.live.com still includes the 2016 version. Other observations - - Show People button (why do we need this?) - Why do I need Cortana to install Windows? - .NET 4.7 included as standard, as is the October patch. IE reads 11.0.47. - Control Panel is still there in all its glory! - Not amazed by Paint 3D, much prefer Paint.NET
