DalekSec Posted September 5, 2017 Author Posted September 5, 2017 Just had the new macbook pro in the office (student device). It doesn't have an On button! Stumped me for a few minutes wondering how you turned the thing on! (You press any button(not the 'any' button))
3s-gtech Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 The soldered RAM is a pain - we specced our newest Mac Minis with 8GB in 2014 to at least give them a decent lifespan. OS X and Garageband (our main use) still work nicely within 4GB, which is what our oldest Macs have. Just bought a Macbook Air - it still has Lightning and a couple of USB ports. With those, we can still output to VGA with the right dongle. It was expensive, but no more so than many Ultrabooks and it's a lovely machine.

I can understand how that makes the design lighter/thinner and how the majority of people wouldn't care anyway, but it'd take a few more years for my brain to catch up and be okay with it!

It looks like the Touch bar version has soldered storage and the version without still have removable storage. I'll be the first to agree that soldered storage is a terrible idea! Unless you get a standard 3 year warranty covering that part of the hardware.
