Tech1 Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 Thinking of getting a standing desk, as sitting at a desk for 80% of my day isn't doing my health/back any good. If you've got one, which one did you go for? Have you noticed an improvement? Did work contribute to the costs? I think I'll probably have to stump up the money myself but I'm willing to do that if the benefits are there.

I know @Ghostgame sits (or should that be lays - lol) next to someone who uses a adjustable standing desk (can raise to stand or lower to use as normal desk). Edited August 17, 2017 by matt40k

Albeit I made it myself using a regular desk, a broken desk, several old pc towers, another broken desk and some boxes of paper Stuck with it for about 2 years, albeit partly because I needed then had an op After 6 months I was able to slouch standing up. But with a proper desk I'd have stuck to it. Get on you can adjust and mount your monitors so they are good and high 1

At one job that I had for a year, my desk was a monitor on the wall with a shelf underneath for keyboard and mouse. It was in the server room, with no windows but on the plus side it was great in the summer. I used to spend as much time as possible visiting the users - anything for daylight. The standing up wasn't too good either. A good chair will help your back no end. I have a BackApp Chair on loan and I'm finding it very good although I still get up and walk about a lot. The downside is they are quite high and I had to put my desk on bricks. I went to the Back Pain Show a couple of months ago and saw one there, and tried it for 20 mins or so. Felt great. When I had one delivered, it didn't feel too good for the first week, but I gave it time and now I love it. I have to convince the college to fork out for it. One of our teachers sits on a Swiss Ball. They are quite cheap. If you go for a stand-up desk, perhaps consider a stand-up stool? Stand Up Chairs & Office Stools from Posturite There are some saddle chairs on this page which I also tried at the Back Pain Show. They seemed OK but I didn't find them as confortable as the BackApp. This company is the one that loaned me the chair. What about this for the ultimate in back support? rad Posted August 18, 2017 Posted August 18, 2017 One of our classrooms has an electric rising one. Had to test the max height as the PC is on it! The user also has a tigger type stool/chair. If you want any info, send me a PM and I will get it next week (rooms in use this week)

From tomorrow, I'll be based in the new building, where they've managed to give me the only office space on the site with no windows or access to natural sunlight. My Technician will be sat outside the office, literally at a desk in the corridor. Not entirely sure how he's supposed to concentrate, or I'm supposed to not develop a Vitamin D deficiency! :/
