[1703, cu] Removing apps - SCCM Task Sequence

Morning all

 

Wondering how people go about removing the built in crapps using a task sequence? I don't really want to go down the route of capturing images etc.

 

I have found a few different scripts to de-crapp the install but these seem to depend on being run either as a user or while logged in (which the SCCM task sequences, are not)

 

We're using SCCM CB so any help is well received

I'm working on this at the moment

 

Download 1703 (Edu or ENT, doesn't matter)

Extract Install.wim from it and stick it in a folder

There is a powershell script on here called Invoke-RemoveBuiltinAppsOffline. This script removes any apps you specify in the script, then closes the wim up again. I've modified it slightly as I also wanted to edit some folders in the WIM, add fonts etc. Then you deploy that as part of your task sequence, then any apps on top of it.

 

Taken me a while, but I'm almost at a place where I feel ready to deploy Windows 10, mainly thanks to this script.

Cheers skell do you have a copy of the script to hand? I searched it and the only result was you asking a question referencing it. There's quite a few different things going around so if I could use yours (as you're happy with it!) I'd really appreciate it

I remove apps during OSD and do not modify the win. It works great for me, I do all customization on the fly during OSD. No messing around with the wim, capture task etc.

Here is the script I use to remove apps.

I copied / cobbled it together back on windows 8 and just added to the $appslist for windows 10.

You should just need to change the $applist to suit your preferences.

This is similar to the way I've been deploying Windows 10 to new devices, but I need a way to remove the default apps that get re-installed as a result of upgrading 1607 to 1703 on existing devices. Any ideas?

I do not deploy the feature upgrades directly.

I create an upgrade TS and have it run these steps during the upgrade.

It allows me to keep all my branding, customization,remove apps and anything else that needs done.

So you mean you captured the image and then deployed it. This is how I did my images I used MDT for capture and SCCM to deploy the images. Well I did MDT with the copy profile and then captured and deployed this image with SCCM.

Well I don't do image capture, just deploy from source.

We'll be using the Windows 10 Servicing feature of SCCM to upgrade our machines based on deployment rings. The only downside is the default apps issue. Otherwise, the upgrade doesn't change anything about our custom image.

I'm starting to feel this way too. There just doesn't seem to be a reliable way to remove the default apps on newly upgraded PCs using Windows 10 Servicing in SCCM. The closest I've come to a solution is to set a logon script in local group policy that strips out the apps from the logged on user, but even then, it won't work until the 2nd time a user logs in. It doesn't seem to recognize the initial profile creation as the first logon.

I really did struggle finding a script that worked ( which also logged everything ) that was deployable in a TS ( not a capture )

Don't remove Microsoft.MicrosoftSolitaireCollection. It will break app dependencies if you do.

Whats strange is , the script worked fine first time around .

This is the problem i was having with a lot of scripts i use . I have activated powershell in the bootimage

 

In the task sequence its set as a powershell script with a package , and the script name is remove-selectedw10.ps1

Thanks for that , noticed one thing wrong on mine . I didnt have "Enhanced" storage set on the boot image.

 

Giving it a test image now to see what happens !
