Was lucky enough to work there for a number of months. Getting your car across is very expensive, hovercraft is the cheapest method but then you need public transport to get around the island and you are probably going to run out of time to do that in a day.

 

Carisbrooke Castle | English Heritage is worth a look, they have a donkey tread mill for drawing water, but if I remember correctly they only demonstrate it a couple of times a day.

Yeah definitely gonna shell out the cash and get the car over, because we want to camp over night. If it's particularly nice we can stay for longer. I don't book anything, so chances are we might not even be able to stay over... but we could always sleep in the car ;)

 

I love talking to people about places I'm going to visit.... really enthuses me!

Without wishing to turn the thread into an IOW travel brochure (but there's nothing wrong with that I don't think) - These are both in Shanklin from our trip last year.
