johbreaking Posted July 10, 2017 Posted July 10, 2017 How do you manage your backup schedule? Do you do a backup every night of every server or just a weekly backup of all servers? Want to implement a new schedule over the summer and would like to know what others do!
sparkeh Posted July 10, 2017 Posted July 10, 2017 Every night, every server. Incremental though so it's quick. Synthetic backups created at weekend. 2
FN-GM Posted July 10, 2017 Posted July 10, 2017 We backup every server every night. We backup the whole Hyper-V Virtual Machine, not just the data. 1
johbreaking Posted July 10, 2017 Author Posted July 10, 2017 Every night, every server. Incremental though so it's quick. Synthetic backups created at weekend. Are you using Veeam or something else?
Michael Posted July 11, 2017 Posted July 11, 2017 Full backups weekends, incrementals during the week.
jthompson Posted July 11, 2017 Posted July 11, 2017 I've mapped all our backup jobs in a Google calendar, taking account of their approximate run time. I've tried to avoid them overlapping too much, which can bog things down. It gives a nice visual overview of all the different backup jobs across the week.
stitch Posted July 11, 2017 Posted July 11, 2017 Full backups weekends, incrementals during the week. Same here.
witch Posted July 11, 2017 Posted July 11, 2017 Shared areas incremental backup every night. Full server backup every weekend
PotNoodleTech Posted July 11, 2017 Posted July 11, 2017 Using Veeam which gives me a lot of options for scheduling. Full backup every Saturday and Reverse Incremental every weekday so that the latest backup is always a full backup.
RJohnson91 Posted July 11, 2017 Posted July 11, 2017 We have daily backups of our critical virtual servers that get put into Azure for offsite / DR backups. And then a weekend backup of all servers for Azure DR . We also have Daily backups for all file shares on our SAN and into Azure. Can never be too careful! 1
Davit2005 Posted July 11, 2017 Posted July 11, 2017 Always done Monday to Thursday Incremental and full on Friday. Most places I've worked have needed the extra time on the weekend to do the full.
Roberto Posted July 11, 2017 Posted July 11, 2017 How do you manage your backup schedule? Do you do a backup every night of every server or just a weekly backup of all servers? Want to implement a new schedule over the summer and would like to know what others do! We do full backups weekly over the weekend and incremental throughout the week. The ideal schedule is one that you as the technical authority feel confident you can recover from and one the organisation feels it can accept the risk of. We back up some SQL databases to disk on their SQL server several times a day, for example, and use volume shadow to provide interim recovery of data throughout the day because that's what the college needs.
CHM-ITServices Posted July 11, 2017 Posted July 11, 2017 Using Veeam which gives me a lot of options for scheduling. Full backup every Saturday and Reverse Incremental every weekday so that the latest backup is always a full backup. Same. Also have a 'high availability' schedule that runs every 30 mins between 8:30 and 5:30 on weekdays for servers with high impact changes, such as finance, sql server (sharepoint). so we never loose more than 30 mins worth of work. 1
KevinB Posted July 13, 2017 Posted July 13, 2017 Using VEEAM, three different schedules: 1: Daily reverse incremental Mon to Fri at 00:01 with 25 restore points kept 2: Weekly reverse incremental Sat at 00:01 with 26 restore points kept 3: Monthly reverse incremental on the last Sunday of the month with 12 restore points kept. This means I can go backwards just over a month on a day by day basis, out to 6 months on a week by week basis and out to a year on a month by month basis. This is on top of 3 shadow copies of a staff shared area and all user folders each day.
