Unlimited inboxes, strong spam filtering, good admin quarantine, easy to configure compliance rules, free, unlimited archiving (vault) works on any device without issue - what's not to like. Set up one of out feeder prrimaries as a sub-domain today - took about an hour (setup SPF, DKIM,DMARC + admin quarantine + a few complience rules) and they were up and running. Never really understood why people would go through the pain/cost of a local exchange box. 2
ellsandell Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 You probably want to be looking at Office365 as well as Gmail - but I certainly wouldn't roll your own Exchange now. 1

I can't remember how many times I've had to say "you can do that in exchange but not Google mail". Can't stand the permissions on Google groups. Far too simplistic for my liking but other than that it works as a mail server should. 2
jthompson Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 We have an on site exchange server but I'm looking to make the switch to Gmail. I'd love to hand over all anti-spam and backup/restore responsibility to a company with far greater expertise and resources than me!

I however rolled out O365 3 years ago and whilst its great for mail and some other things, I personally wish I had gone the Gmail route because of Google Apps For Education.

Googles offering come with a whole heap of (in my opinion) more school focussed extras. I however rolled out O365 3 years ago and whilst its great for mail and some other things, I personally wish I had gone the Gmail route because of Google Apps For Education.

NB9457 Posted June 30, 2017 Posted June 30, 2017 We use GMail, it's great. Exchange seems a bit pointless now, it costs money to licence, maintain and you have hardware costs too. No brainer for me at least!

Googles cloud offering is Google docs - not compatible with Microsoft. If that isn't desirable, Office 365 has stripped down versions of Outlook, Powerpoint, Excel, Word, Publisher and Notes (amongst others) that can be used direct in the browser and saved/synced in OneDrive. If you have EES Microsoft licensing you are covered for free Office 365 and Office. Why not trial each and see which suits you best.
Stealth111 Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 I can say after personally managing our Exchange Server for the last 10 years in our school district, I have never been happier since I made the decision to move completely to G Suite for our district. The Gmail migration was painless and I have never looked back!

You can create MS compatible docs within drive from a tablet or phone, its an option when you select new doc. As for drive online, you can convert any Google doc to a MS doc, if needed
