rpwillis Posted June 24, 2017 Posted June 24, 2017 Microsoft Teams for Education is now rolling out. https://educationblog.microsoft.com/2017/06/collaborative-classroom-features-now-available-microsoft-teams/?wt.mc_id=AID620997_QSG_SCL_172658 4
10101010 Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 anyone taken a look yet, can't work out how to set an assignment in Teams.
Bob_the_Goon Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 I haven't taken a look yet but I've found the following resources online. Create student project groups (channels) in Microsoft Teams Moderate class discussion Post aannouncements Mute a student Mute multiple students Delete messages Delete conversation Remove students from team Remove co-teacher Delete team Create assignment Save assignment as draft View assignments across classes View assignments in class Edit assignment Delete assignment Review and post grades Review assignment 2
10101010 Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 (edited) tried following the create assignment guide, but fall over at the first hurdle...there is nothing under the 'General tab' looks like something isn't enabled on my tenancy. anyone managed to create an assignment? 10101010 Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 ok found the problem, if you have any Teams setup already, you can't add assignment, by creating a new Team you have the option to set it up as a Class. Then it's available.

10101010 Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 do you have a General tab under the Team you've just setup. Under there you should see the following tabs like in my year 8 test class attached.

Yeah, it wasn't there. It's come back now, looks like I had disabled a setting in the admin that broke it!
colly72 Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 I cant enable it in services & add-ins. Anyone else get the attached error?
ITGuyNW Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 Anyone had an issue rolling this out to machines that are filtered through Smoothwall? People can't log in.
10101010 Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 didn't do anything extra, but just tested the app now running through smoothwall. Works really nicely if you have AD syncd with office 365, onced logged onto to a windows machine the app just works, no further authentication required. I have had some trouble uploading files through a browser when trying to add 'Reference materials' in an assigment. Attaching one drive files ok, just hangs when try to upload something from a local machine. Strangely I have no problems when using the local installation of Microsoft Teams.
Cheesywolf Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 Are there any differences between the version we have in the UK compared to the version available in the US, i.e. do we have less functionality or is it likely to be the same globally?
Crowmanuk Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 I've got assignments working ok for me but the one teacher i've tried it with keeps getting an error when he tries to post or save it as a draft.
ltaylor Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 One problem I seem to be seeing is that you can only create assignments and use the class notebook under the 'General' channel of each class created which obviously prevents you from using each channel as a different topic area. I haven't tried it on a large scale but I can imagine this is going to make it difficult to maintain and keep organised for teachers.
10101010 Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 I don't think there are any differnces in functionality, however I know they could sync directly with the MIS they use in the US. Last time I spoke with MS they were looking to develop a connector for SIMS, although I suspect they may stick with csv importing. 1

Turned out we had a missing url from Smoothwall. I've added all the web address in our white list on SWGfL SafetyNet and it all now appears to be working. Pete
gtg93 Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 How have people rolled out Teams to computers? I've tried with a simple powershell script as a logon script but it just errors out. I'm yet to start searching through event logs just wondered if anyone had a suggestion? 1
ITGuyNW Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 It runs without admin rights so I've just placed it on the desktops for people to use.
gtg93 Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 It runs without admin rights so I've just placed it on the desktops for people to use. This may have to be the plan for now. The problem we have is that some people aren't using it when we have a shortcut to the website on the desktop currently - it was hoped by pushing out the desktop client and having launch at startup would prompt them to use it more.
ITGuyNW Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 I'm sure once it's installed once to that users profile on that machine, then it launches every time you startup. The problem is if you hot swap.
gtg93 Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 This is the issue... There are approx 3 teachers per year group and 2 classrooms. The 3rd teacher tends to float a bit, so it'd be a matter of installing it for at least 50 staff on twice as many machines. Considering the nature of the software, I'd have thought MS would've released a proper multi-user installation option in the form of an MSI.
Bob_the_Goon Posted August 1, 2017 Posted August 1, 2017 I have two questions: 1) Does anyone know how you can view private chat conversations? This may be necessary if a pupil is bullying another pupil. 2) Is it possible to turn off the private chat functionality altogether. I've noticed that there is an option called "Allow users to chat privately" within the Office 265 Admin Console --> Settings --> Services & Add-ins --> MS Teams --> Messaging. Weirdly this is set to On and it doesn't let you toggle the option to Off! Nice one Microsoft.

From his answers, it's currently not possible to monitor private chats nor can they be turned off either. We're not touching Teams until these features are in place.
Bob_the_Goon Posted August 1, 2017 Posted August 1, 2017 I've found the answer to my first question. This can be done within the Security and Compliance Centre under Search & Investigation --> Content search. I've successfully ran a report for a message sent within Teams. 1
