sparkeh Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 @Al_NetSupport Can I clarify, when you say "EduGeekers can buy NetSupport DNA for just £3 per device, per year." Does that mean the ongoing cost, every year is £3 per device or is that actually for one year, them the cost goes up? 1

Does that mean the ongoing cost, every year is £3 per device or is that actually for one year, them the cost goes up? Morning @sparkeh - happy to clarify. The offer is for £3 a device and the price will remain the same each future year, as long as you continue to maintain the subscription. I'm always conscious of budgeting and the need for schools to know in advance what future costs will be. T.B.H it's rarley well received when vendors start pushing up renewal costs for no obvious reason. I always make a point as the MD of NetSupport to reply personally to questions on edugeek, and where i commit to something, then you can absolutely take that as a guarantee. Hope that helps Al 3

Every device that you want to add to the inventory? Or devices that you want to manage by deploying the client?
Al_NetSupport Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 (edited) It does! I am very interested! Sorry if this the wrong place to ask this kind of question, but what devices do you include in the count? Every device that you want to add to the inventory? Or devices that you want to manage by deploying the client? Not a problem, always happy to answer. NetSupport DNA uses an agent which is installed on each device you want to be able to Capture Inventory information from, monitor activity on and remotely manage - each of these devices needs a licence. In addition, we allow you to discover and monitor SNMP enabled devices ( network printers and switches ) - these do not require an additional licence. Finally the Console you use to access NetSupport DNA is included as standard, so you can install as many copies as you like of that. So typically a School network with say 400 PC, 10 network printers and a selection of switches and other network kit, managed by 6 IT staff - you would simply purchase a 400 device licence of NetSupport DNA - so £1,200 a year guaranteed for future years. Alis_Klar Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 I still don't understand why you have bound the Safeguarding product to DNA? Would it not be clearer to market it as a separate product or bound it to the Netsupport School (NSS) product?
Al_NetSupport Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 (edited) I still don't understand why you have bound the Safeguarding product to DNA? Would it not be clearer to market it as a separate product or bound it to the Netsupport School (NSS) product? Thanks for the question @Alis_Klar , i can see the reason why you are asking. The decision we have taken is that we think to offer a "complete" safeguarding solution you need to deliver a set of tools and that starts with the obvious questions - Which Student, what were they doing etc. But to make the context relevant you need to know, what PC they were on ( so need PC discovery), what application they were using ( App Metering), what website they were on ( Internet metering), if a serious trigger topic, what they were looking at (Screen monitoring) and before you know it - you are utilising many of the same low level features of an IT management tool. To meet KCSIE guidlines properly you also need to do things like link what content is monitored and restricted by age groups, so you need to identify a student ID when they are using resources : - that needs a real-time link to a central database which also then facilitates historical reporting and analysis of safeguarding trends. DNA includes that as standard, so it all joins up neatly. What we also did though was choose to make all the components in NetSupport DNA configurable, so if you are a safeguarding lead, and that's all you want to see, when you sign into NetSupport DNA, that's all you get, just one tab on the toolbar, and just safeguarding data, everything else is invisible. We developed it with safeguarding staff at schools and our Local Authority based on what they felt was most useable and have tried to keep it really, really accessible. I hope that helps explain our thinking, not claiming we are right, but just wanted to share the thought process. Of course at our current offer price, you could argue we are giving you the Safeguarding for free - or if you prefer, when you buy schoolwide safeguarding for £3 a licence - you get an IT management suite for free. Al_NetSupport Posted June 16, 2017 Posted June 16, 2017 Just wanted to say thanks for all those who have PM'd me already for info. Thought it best to round up a few of the questions asked for the benefit of others. Chrome support - yes it's being extended to cover NetSupport DNA in version 4.5 too iOS support - yup, we have a new DNA iOS app due that will provide safeguarding features Mac - yes this arrives with version 4.5 too Edge Browser - Yes we already support this. Preventing multiple logins - done and tested, ready for version 4.5 Multi-year - yes happy to do a deal if you want to purchase for multiple years now while the offer is on. We may well release 4.5 for Windows and then release the apps over the period of a week or two just to ensure we don't introduce any issues. ISTE USA - yes we will be there so if you want to see the latest versions please come and see us on Booth #1026. I'll be there all week along with @Matt_NetSupport and the US team. Also, we have updated our R/C capabilities now so you can remotely manage Android Tablets and phones. Also includes an app so you can do remote control any of your school PCs directly from your Andoroid or iOS phone too. Will share some of the new features in v4.5 over the next week. Have a lovely weekend. Al. 1
Edu-IT Posted June 16, 2017 Posted June 16, 2017 (edited) Is this just the inventory product or full classroom management too? I'm assuming all but want to be sure as your website suggests bits and pieces can be purchased separately. Edited June 16, 2017 by Edu-IT 1

SteveM555 Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 If anyone hasn't tried this yet, they should. We've recently joined NetSupport and have been very impressed with both the setup and features of DNA. The deployment works great, we've already deployed to over 750 of our PCs without doing one manual install. We found the Dynamic groups awesome. We can now instantly manage/see the amount of PCs with SIMS installed, AV, Office versions etc. 1

Product update I did promise everyone that in our next update we would be extending NetSupport DNA so that you could deliver live monitoring and eSafety on other platforms, so i wanted to share a screenshot from the testbed with a pre-release build of NetSupport DNA 4.5. You'll note the thumbnails are from a MacBook, iPad, Windows Desktop and Chromebook You might also spot a new component on the main toolbar at the top - "Activity" which provides a single chronological view of all activity for a given User, PC or department over any requested period of time. In our Explorer view for the first time, you will be able to see real-time Network traffic for each PC so you can see who the network "hog" is, alongside real-time CPU utilisation, memory etc. I'll try and add some more screenshots later today. Al. Edited June 22, 2017 by Al_NetSupport
Al_NetSupport Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 As promised above this screenshot shows the new network activity monitoring we will be including in NetSupport DNA 4.5. It also includes CPU and Memory usages too. Within our alerting component, you can also set alerts to warn you if CPU utilisation exceeds X% for more than X seconds ( or minutes), or any similar perfromance benchmark, ensuring you get proactive alerts when systems are beginning to struggle. Everyone who purchases our current "super duper extra special :D" offer will, of course, get this update automatically as soon as it is released ( QA permitting - hopefully the next few weeks). Al.
Al_NetSupport Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 As requested by a number of our users including @ Fiza - Preventing students logging into more than one PC has also been added, you can choose if you want to prevent them logging into a second PC before they log out of the original, or alternatively, you allow them to log into the new PC and automatically log them out of the original one. As you would expect this can be applied to selected users / groups. Al.
Al_NetSupport Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 Also added our new Activity view in version 4.5 . You can now also view activity for either a Student, a PC or a group of PCs - all within a single consolidated Log view. View activity on a PC View Activity by a user Al.

Al. Looks good! Will this be reportable too? I guess we need to be careful not to fill up the DB too much, however I can see something along the lines of the following would be useful... User: "My PC is running slow / was running slow this morning at 9:30ish" Us: (*Checks PC utilisation in DNA*) - "Yes, we can see your CPU/RAM is maxed out. We can also see you have 27 applications open too [via the user audit log trail] so perhaps close some stuff before moaning."

Should be able to see and get alerted on all this, to make it easy ( per your example) to advise users what they need to do. We have some funky stuff on real-time activity that is well advanced and will appear in 4.6 too.
altecsole Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 Hi Al. How about a deal for existing DNA customers who want to add some extra licenses? 1
