Canon Toner Bottles

Hi All,

 

Just wondering how you all dispose of your Toner bottles from the photocopiers. is there a free way of recycling these or does every company want paying for this.

Our leasing copier company collect them.

When I worked in Schools, I brought all my kit from Stone and every now and again when I had a load of old toner, computers, projectors, printers etc I used to ask nicely and they'd take it away for free for me but I did spend a lot and stocked up about 3 pallet loads of junk.

It looks like this company accept normal ink not the toner bottles from photocopiers.

If you're on a lease, you could argue the toner bottles are not your property to throw away! ha ha

 

You could try dumping them on a IT recycling firm?

You should check this. Sharp (who we lease from) never mentioned collecting ours, then I spoke to a recycling company and they said that if we were leasing then under WEEE reg's, Sharp had to pick them up. I went back to Sharp and now they pick them up for free. We accidentally drop the odd HP inkjet in there too and they've never said anything.......

I have to admit, for a while after I started I may have been doing something very naughty... But I didn't know any different, this being my first IT job and well they were empty.

 

However, it did play on my mind and it was the waste toner bottles that really got me after I found out how toxic it was for the environment.

 

Anyway, we lease our printers and one time I saw an engineer fixing one of our MFD's and I asked him if he would take a couple of the waste toner bottles I had been storing in my room.

 

He agreed, but then said "why don't you call the company? They'll send you a box and once you've filled it, they will collect it..."

 

I have to say, I wondered why this isn't standard procedure when you lease the printers from them... Cost cutting?

It's probably worth speaking to Canon. I wouldn't be surprised if they had something similar.

 

OfficeXpress don't accept toner bottles. I haven't tested what happens if one is accidentally left in the collection box, though..........

We use http://www.greener-side.co.uk/ They take pretty much anything, although we did get told off when we put all of the toners, etc back into the cardboard boxes and included them.

Worth talking to OfficeXpress, I've used them for years and they've been great. Make sure you order up a box 'in hand' just in case; comes flat-packed and looks like you've ordered a mural or something!
