Hi

I have had a few quotes for a replacement SANs. Currently looking for around 16tb of storage at RAID 10.

I have had two spec's on the same device which are coming out at the same cost. Only difference is one has 20 x 960gb enterprise SSDs and the other has 12 x 1.9tb enterprise SSDs. Which one would you go for?

I'd look at the cost of the SSD's incase you need a replacement or need to expand.

Getting the 12 X bigger SSD would give much more room to expand though, how many spare slots??

What are the costs if you don't mind me asking and spec?

The benefit of more smaller drives is you can have more drive failures and rebuild times would be a little quicker, also it would be quicker in theory as a bigger stripe, also easier to create separate RAID configs.

The benefit of bigger drives is less rack space, less power consumption.

Either way, you should be ok, just think which would work better for you.

There both coming in around the £23k mark. As Davit2005 said above it does raise concern about the cost to expand, as each 1.9tb drive costs around £2000.
