I genuinely hope the software will be a help and another tool to help save time. There is absolutely no cost or commitment so i hope others will give it a try too. I see we have some schools who have multiple "Edugeekers" who have managed to get 300 or even 450 free licences out of us by applying in parallel !! I guess have to give you A+ for effort Al. Great product though in testing and looking to deploy but need a hand from @NetSupportTechSupport to first activate my license and then offer advice on deploying notify agent and console via GPO. deano3693 Posted March 5, 2018 Posted March 5, 2018 Hi Everyone, So the school have now realised that our Lockdown procedure has a few flaws! I've now been tasked with coming up with a simple solution so that anyone in the school can trigger a 'Lockdown Procedure' notification to all machines in the school in as few clicks as possible! Is this something i could do with NetSupport Notify either through an email tie in so for example staff send an email to an address saying 'Lockdown' and it automatically sends out a pre-defined notification to all screens or a command line tie in so staff click a button and it runs a script that triggers a notification to all screens saying follow lockdown procedure. Any other suggestions or what other schools do would be appreciated? Regards, Dean.

It can also be triggered with shortcut keys, so they can be sent without having to open software / consoles and type / paste messages etc. Email wouldn't be great as it relies on staff having their emails open and them seeing the email come in (most teachers at my school have disabled the popup alert because of privacy issues), so they often don't see emails until between lessons... It needs to be fairly idiot proof so that even a cover supervisor who was only here for one day could do it I like the idea of it showing the machine name it was triggered from as well.
Tom_NetSupport Posted March 5, 2018 Posted March 5, 2018 Hi @deano3693 NetSupport Notify allows you to pre-configure an emergency response message at the Agent's machine and set up a hotkey combination to send this (CTRL + arrow key). This needs to be configured at each Notification Agent machine that is to receive the emergency message (you can roll this out using Active Directory). In order for staff to send an Alert, they would need a Console installed. By default, this feature is not turned on so you would have to do this before configuring the message and hotkey. But students getting access to a PC while a member of staff is logged on would be a discipline issue... There are definitely pros and cons to allowing all staff to trigger the alert... Are you working in schools again @ricki?

Imagine if a student got on a staff log on what fun they could have That was my first comment although the Deputy Head is fairly insistent that the students would have to know what they where looking for or the keyboard shortcut or similar to trigger it and hopefully we'd able to track it back to the machine it was initiated from and the staff members account and then they would be in for a rough ride as under the Data Protection Policy in school all machines should be LOCKED when not in use our staff are fairly good at this as it is well policed by SLT. I am hoping to go down the Keyboard shortcut route.

Hi, Okay having enabled this we've had two false alarms in the last 24 hours (Staff activating it without knowing). We haven't even sent out the key presses yet. Either a more complex set of keys is required or a pop up that says are you sure you want to activate 'Emergency response' so that they have to confirm they want to send it? Are either of these feasible and if so in what timescale? I've had to disable it for now due to the accidental triggers. Regards, Dean.

This will help to eliminate any false triggers from the machines. I am unable to confirm a time-scale as to when the feature will be in the Notify software; however, we will keep you updated with any developments in this area. 1
