J.J. Abrams will direct Star Wars: Episode IX

Lucasfilm announced today that J.J. Abrams will take over as the director for Star Wars: Episode IX after Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow left the project.

Lucasfilm delays release of Star Wars Episode IX after director change

Lucasfilm has announced a new release date for Star Wars: Episode IX. Previously scheduled to come out in May 2019, the film will now release on 20 December 2019, just in time for Christmas.

The announcement isn't a surprise. It comes a week after Lucasfilm fired Colin Trevorrow as director and hours after Lucasfilm announced that he will be replaced by JJ Abrams, director of the 2015 film Star Wars: Episode VII—The Force Awakens.

There have also been rumors this year that the film needed to be re-written. One reason for that was the death of Carrie Fisher, who played Princess and then General Leia, last December. She was slated to play a significant role in Episode IX, and she may still appear in the film using pre-shot footage. But her character will obviously play a less significant role as a result of her death.

Disney paid $4 billion for the rights to the Star Wars franchise five years ago. Episode IX is supposed to be the last movie in the nine-part Star Wars saga, but a strong showing is likely to lay the groundwork for other spinoff projects, not to mention merchandising opportunities for years to come.

I think so far minus how A New Hope the first one felt, two things have really disappointed me.... Han Solo and Luke. Broken men.. after everything they went through..

Luke lost those who raised him, his short time mentor, had his hand chopped off and found out who his father was.. to then go against him and the Emperor.. to chop his hand off and give him self up and refusing to turn evil. His father then died.... he also discovered that he had a twin sister.

BUT after losing his nephew and seeing his academy go up in smoke.. he loses the plot. Even Mark H wasn't too impressed with it.

I'm not excited over this trailer, even though I've been waiting for it... hopefully it means the movie won't leave an empty feeling inside my stomach.

Maybe it was a delayed reaction to those feelings he had that led to him snogging his sister?

Just 2 weeks to go until it's finally released! I can't wait now, really looking forward to my day off work to see it in glorious IMAX 3D.
