JJonas Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 but... what are the dolphins for? Its a DEV kit with a higher spec than the final production console maybe you add dolphins to the front display as a way to downscale the processor power to that of the final production console? 1
Arthur Posted June 11, 2017 Author Posted June 11, 2017 Xbox Scorpio is now Xbox One X—launches 7 November Xbox One Project Scorpio is no more. Introducing Xbox One X, Microsoft's stab at bringing 4K HDR visuals to console gamers with six teraflops of graphical grunt and a sleek design similar to the Xbox One S dubbed "the smallest Xbox ever." It's due for worldwide release on 7 November 2017. A price has not yet been announced. Microsoft chose Turn 10's Forza 7 as the first game to showcase on Xbox One X. Alongside "super high-resolution assets," Forza 7 will feature the Porsche 2018 GT2 RS supercar, a car as yet not available to buy for real. Countering criticism that few compelling games have launched on Xbox One, Microsoft promises that 22 console exclusives will launch on both the OG Xbox One and Xbox Scorpio. Powering the Xbox One X is an all-new AMD GPU, which features 40 "customised" Radeon compute units (compared to just 12 on the Xbox One and Xbox One S) clocked at an impressive 1172MHz. By contrast, the original Xbox One GPU is clocked at 853MHz, and the PS4 Pro's is clocked at 911MHz. That's paired with 12GB of GDDR5 memory on a 384-bit bus for 326GB/s of memory bandwidth, which is again substantially higher than the 204GB/s of the Xbox One and the 218GB/s of the PS4 Pro. It's even higher than AMD's own RX 480, and Nvidia's GTX 1080.
Rob_D Posted June 12, 2017 Posted June 12, 2017 I wonder if it's intentional that the acronym for this is XBOX? (I'm sure you were all thinking it)
DalekSec Posted June 12, 2017 Posted June 12, 2017 If it really can do what they say it can do, that's pretty good! Seeing as one 1080 costs around the same price!
sted Posted June 12, 2017 Posted June 12, 2017 If it really can do what they say it can do, that's pretty good! Seeing as one 1080 costs around the same price! at the end of the day though a console lives and dies on its exclusives and even with the 20 odd they showed last night im still not sure theres any reason coming soon to turn my xbox one on let alone splas4 out £450 on a faster one and a new amp/tv to make full use of it. Sure forza 7 looks nice but so did 5/6 and they are jsut dull after a while (i suspect ill sill get it but this time i will wait for it to be cheap and nanas to the dlc) sea of thieves looks fun if you have 3 other people you can persuade to play it at the same time id imagine if you dont have a crew its a frustrating experience and i can barely remember any of the other games shown some 3d platforming squirrel and some pretty looking shooters yey!
localzuk Posted June 12, 2017 Posted June 12, 2017 I've been waiting for this to be announced. Planning to replace my original Xbox One with it (I skipped the S as it didn't seem worth it). Well, when I have money to anyway.
Dos_Box Posted June 12, 2017 Posted June 12, 2017 Also mentioned last night was that they are to introduce backwards compatibility to the original XBox titles some time by the end of the year: E3 2017: Original Xbox Games To Become Backwards Compatible on Xbox One - IGN Not sure just how good this will be or whether you would have to download these from the store or can simply use the original discs.
Theblacksheep Posted June 12, 2017 Posted June 12, 2017 I really REALLY cant wait for Cuphead! We've been waiting such a long time for this!
JJonas Posted June 15, 2017 Posted June 15, 2017 (edited) Larry Hryb and Leo Del Castillo, General Manager of Xbox Hardware, to build an Xbox One X piece by piece and talk tech specs. (starts at 2h6m17s) Edited June 15, 2017 by JJonas
foofighterjim Posted June 15, 2017 Posted June 15, 2017 Larry Hryb and Leo Del Castillo, General Manager of Xbox Hardware, to build an Xbox One X piece by piece and talk tech specs. (starts at 2h6m17s) Very interesting but I still doubt I will get one, given that they said that any games made for Xbox One X will play on the original Xbox One I just don't see the point. Graphics aren't massively important to me (otherwise I would play on PC), neither is 4K playback nor VR.
GuyJD Posted June 15, 2017 Posted June 15, 2017 (edited) Personally I think it's inevitable that at some point Microsoft will adopt a similar store structure to Apple and Google, where eventually you'll go to buy a game on the Xbox One and it will tell you that your hardware is not supported, I just don't see how they can say that every game will work on every Xbox especially when they've hinted that they will not be releasing a "new Generation" of consoles. JJonas Posted June 15, 2017 Posted June 15, 2017 I think by next E3 they could be starting to show us Xb1X only games due for release in 2019

Same way games work on PC. Reduced quality and functionality on older machines. Microsoft have been pretty firm on the issue so far. I suspect that if they do make that switch, they'll wait until the vast majority of users are on XBOX (wait, that isn't clear is it, using the acronym. I mean the One X).
GuyJD Posted June 15, 2017 Posted June 15, 2017 Planned obsolescence has to be on the cards at some point.
2ilent8cho Posted June 15, 2017 Posted June 15, 2017 Excellent specs, only problem I can see is that Microsoft will have to win over Gamers that have gone to Sony. Yep, i have 8 Xbox 360's, loved the Xbox 360 until the interface changed to that horrid tile UI they use today. Then add that system link was ignored in the Xbox One i just jumped to Sony Playstation this generation and i have no intention of going back. Glad i did too as i love PSVR.

I would agree with you but by Microsofts own admission this is not a new generation of console. I know that if they ever get there act together with VR that this would only be available on the One X. If there were One X exclusives that aren't VR within the next 3-4 years then I will probably jump ship to be honest, I wouldn't want to be subject to Microsoft writing off "current gen" hardware after 3 1/2 years; it defeats the main selling point of console gaming.
flyinghaggis Posted June 15, 2017 Posted June 15, 2017 (edited) It'll be very interesting to see whether the next Xbox console after the xbox one x retains backward compatibility with previous consoles or is a completely new architecture as had been the norm for the past few decades. Likewise I wonder if we'll see any Xbox one x exclusives in future? Edited June 15, 2017 by flyinghaggis
XiJ Posted June 15, 2017 Posted June 15, 2017 Are they still using slow hdd's ? It's like going back to spectrum and tapes when trying to load a game on the one S from the internal drive.
sted Posted June 16, 2017 Posted June 16, 2017 Are they still using slow hdd's ? It's like going back to spectrum and tapes when trying to load a game on the one S from the internal drive. its meant to be 25% faster but it still looks to me like a 2.5 laptop drive. I dont get why they cant have an ssd option or ideally allow you to put your own in
ZeroHour Posted June 16, 2017 Posted June 16, 2017 Are they still using slow hdd's ? It's like going back to spectrum and tapes when trying to load a game on the one S from the internal drive. It's not ssds due to the game size. I have read that the slow loading is less to do with disk speed and more processing (although an ssd wouldn't hurt) I doubt the S will die anytime soon. I would expect Microsoft to work like Sony in that regard and similar to how it is on PC. A lot of games run on old rigs still now thanks to unreal engine etc which scale down remarkably well. Engine choice is key though and there are examples of terrible engines that will slaughter everything (points at ark) but because Microsoft control publishing rights they can enforce quite a few things. Ark is coming to console but it has taken a long time and a lot of engine changes to get it there.
