Our W2003 server had to be rebooted and since it has been rebooted we are unable to remote desktop onto the server, we get an error message as show below.

That's a pretty generic error. Can you actually contact the server either by pinging it or using the services it provides (e.g. mail, printing etc).

 

Make sure there have been no changes to it's IP address or DNS record.

Have you checked the Remote Desktop settings in MyComputer>Propeties>Remote tab? I have both options checked.

 

Also check that the account you are trying to connect to the server from has enough permissions from the Select Remote users tab

Open up Terminal Services Manager on the server - and disconnect any hung sessions on it.

[ You can add the relevant server from another server if you can RDP to that or you may have to bite the bullet and hook up a keyboard / mouse & screen. ]

You may be able to do a "Console" RDP session toclear this out as well
