victory2015 Posted March 13, 2017 Author Posted March 13, 2017 All back up, very surprised they didn't realise earlier it was down from 2am last night.. staff were unable to remote access!! yes they work that late I heard they turn it off and on again!
fiza Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 Now been asked to look at a backup line for use by office and Senior staff in case this ever happens again. Does anyone have any recommendations? Doesnt have to be fast as its purely for use by a handful of people.

mukz Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 Surprising how the entire core can go down, with failover or resiliency in place that is supposed tested.
GuyJD Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 LGfL twitter says they are going to conduct a full review to ensure it doesn't happen again.

Yes but point is they are serving hundreds of schools and should have procedures in place for this. Obviously not everything goes to plan in an ideal world but this was more than a simple issue of one unit going bust.

Interesting. You were down four hours before we were, and then back up nearly two hours ahead of us.
GuyJD Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 My activity report shows mine going down at about 6:50am and came back up just after 9am
victory2015 Posted March 13, 2017 Author Posted March 13, 2017 if not fully down there were certainly warning signs at around 2am .. no access to any of our external services.
mukz Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 if not fully down there were certainly warning signs at around 2am .. no access to any of our external services. our 4 schools have been dodgy since last week with spates of outtage on weekends and evenings after 5 which we thought were just maintenance.

LGfL schedule maintenance, and announce it via the support site. Suggest you raise some tickets, one per outage, for each site.

MarcLister Posted March 14, 2017 Posted March 14, 2017 Based in Harrow and was told by a colleague when I walked into work at 7:40am yesterday that there was no Internet. I assumed it was another power cut like the one we had the Sunday before. Everything was back on but I had to reset a couple of switches which hadn't recovered from the power loss properly. So I assume its the same and reset switches but still nothing. Took me a while to realise it was an issue affecting not just our school but others. I rang a neighbouring school with whom we share an LGFL connection and they were down. Tried ringing the Atomwide support line and wasn't able to get through. The penny dropped then. Eventually went on Twitter and found the tweet saying that most of LGFL was down. Just a waiting game then. I was quite stunned at how long and widespread the outage lasted. Hopefully they'll let us know what went wrong and how they'll do their best to prevent it re-occurring.
Fizzer Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 I received a txt from our monitoring service at 5.30AM reporting a failure and hot-footed into the office to investigate. When I realised the internet connection was offline I also couldn't get through to support. I tried option 2 and spoke to Virgin. I think I was one of the first to few call them, and they were collating information about the cause of the problem and getting a support ticket opened to cover it. Their comment at the time was that it was definitely an LGFL issue. I got the impression that they also at that time weren't in direct contact with LGFL either (i.e. the customers were the first people to alert Virgin of the issue) Whatever happened to the hardware, I suspect that lgfl are probably looking quite closely at the service monitoring, support and reaction to the unfolding problem that morning.
