We're looking at the Dell N series, £450 for a 48 port 10Gb edge switch and around £2k for a 24 port 10Gbe stackable core.

That's pretty good, I was looking at at least twice that for those models! I'd be looking at the Ubiquiti switches, but I need them to be stackable before we could consider them :/

@Asgard - that seems more expensive than HPE!

Not when you actually argue pricing and tell them that eduction isn't littered with pots of gold.

I've seen the list price from some of the suppliers when you google it and we paid nothing near that especially when you get pricing support direct from Netgear.

I get on pretty well with the product manager for the entire managed switched division, I've got a couple of fellow edugeek members some discount when buying kit there all for pricing support to help out.

This was a great trip [emoji106]

Gonna order me a 48 port poe+ ubi edgeswitch tomorrow I think. Been toying with the idea for a while now. Equivalent hp 2530 is 1300 quid now (grey import). Ubi one is 700

Yes fully ubi now as of 3 weeks ago. 38 installed switches 70 x 10gbps uplinks incl SFP's for just under 20k ! incl 7 spare switches best thing I have done.

Out of interest which range?

Might have to pop in to Cardiff then sometime to see that Richy me boy!! Won't be upgrading the whole lot like you've been able to do as I am very happy with my HP 5412ZL and the HP 2530s but I've still got a few old 2650 dotted around that need replacing and the 2530 are looking a bit steep for those edge areas. We're using POE more than ever now and I have not got enough 2530POE+ for any future expansion.

I'm confused by the HPE/ Aruba pricing - what is the average cost for a 2530?

It depends on the model you buy, who you buy it from and how many you buy. I should think it's hard to say for sure. You're probably best giving a gold HP partner like European Electronique a call and seeing what they can do for you.

So I'm running the J9772A which are 48 port, 1 gig uplinks. £849.98 + vat approx.

https://www.comms-express.com/products/hp-2530-48g-poe-switch-j9772a/

I would be looking at the Ubiquiti 48 port 500w which comes in at £679.56+vat approx.

https://www.comms-express.com/products/ubiquiti-unifiswitch-48-port-500w/

However that has 2 x 10GB uplinks wich is amazing for the money, the actual equivalent HP switch would be

J9853A @ £1266+vat approx.

https://www.comms-express.com/products/hp-2530-48g-poe-2sfp-switch-j9853a/

Now the top end HP switch is 25% faster, better switching capacity/throughput etc, but for HALF the price the Ubiquiti stuff looks really really strong.

I've been quoted £695 for a HP 2530-48G.
