steven_layton_sl Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 Some of my students and staff have found that they have recently lost access to most of the applications via the menu button, and only Tasks, Calendars, People and Outlook are present. Its happening on Chromebooks and Windows PCs, and on any browser. This makes me wonder whether its a fault with Office 365, or a licencing issue. Looking in the Admin console, I can't see any differences between those affected, and those not. Any ideas?
Jaymate Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 Have you checked if your subscription has expired in the 365 admin console - think you have to renew the free ones each year.
steven_layton_sl Posted March 1, 2017 Author Posted March 1, 2017 Hi Jay - I'm not sure the ones we use Office 365 Education Plus for Faculty/students does expire.
steven_layton_sl Posted March 1, 2017 Author Posted March 1, 2017 So, we're using RM Unify as a single sign-on. Not sure if that's related or not. But when I get an affected user to browse to Office.com, the menu works.

What appear in the app launcher details on the different aspect of the license you have assigned. So if you have Exchange you will see those 4 but if you dont have SharePoint license you wont see SharePoint, OneDrive, Newsfeed(older and may not appear anyway) and the office apps
CHM-ITServices Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 (edited) I have the exact same issue and i currently have a service request open with Microsoft. We have lost all branding and apps in the launch menu. @Steven_Layton, if you access the admin portal directly, does your environment return? It does for me. Here is my user portal sign in.. And here is my admin sign in (which is correct)... Edited March 1, 2017 by Jam_lane
steven_layton_sl Posted March 1, 2017 Author Posted March 1, 2017 (edited) @Jam_lane is the issue impacting all, or just some of your accounts? It just seems to be some here. For instance, I'm fine, but my technician has the issue. How would he access the admin portal directly, if the tile is not present? Whats the URL? Edit - ignore, having a dumb moment, I obviously know the URL, as I can click it. Edited March 1, 2017 by steven_layton_sl
zag Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 Yep same issue here, just had an email from one of our office ladies about microsoft forms missing which she uses for all kinds of surveys. The direct link seems to work fine.
jslate1980 Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 We are also having this issue today. Logged it with Microsoft just waiting for a phone call. Jon
steven_layton_sl Posted March 1, 2017 Author Posted March 1, 2017 Good to know I'm not alone. Misery loves company, lol.
CHM-ITServices Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 It seems to be everyone here. Here is the admin link: https://portal.microsoftonline.com/admin/default.aspx
CHM-ITServices Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 (edited) It doesn't help that yesterday i was running powershell scripts to remove certain services from students! Came in this morning and all the apps were gone...been thinking it was me all morning! Edited March 1, 2017 by Jam_lane
steven_layton_sl Posted March 1, 2017 Author Posted March 1, 2017 @Jam_lane - Yeah, hate those times when you make a change, and something external happens which makes you doubt yourself!
win Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 Just received a call from MS, they are aware of the issue and are working on it (it is affecting us as well) 1
sted Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 if you put the office 365 admin app on your phone youre forever getting notifications saying sharepoint/skype is screwed up to the point you often wonder when it works fully useful to know though
win Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 (edited) As a workaround you can use this URL until the issue is resolved: https://portal.office.com Edited March 1, 2017 by win
CHM-ITServices Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 Just got off the phone with Microsoft, it is a global known issue and it directly relates to outlook. I'm now awaiting a call from the exchange team.
steven_layton_sl Posted March 2, 2017 Author Posted March 2, 2017 The users who had the issue yesterday, still have it today. Is this the case with you guys? Do I need to contact MS for them to fix my tenancy, or are they fixing it globally?
MouseAT Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 MS are apparently fixing it globally. There's an entry in the Exchange Online status page in Office 365 admin. Estimated resolution time is by 7pm tonight.
jslate1980 Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 Yep still having the same issue with the same users here as well.
CHM-ITServices Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 Half fixed here. My theme and landing page have returned but clicking on mail returns it to the messed up state.
abaxter2 Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 Now listed in service health tab of the admin center - says fix is over 95% complete and that the preliminary root cause was a recent certificate update contained a configuration issue. We are lucky here as only a couple of users are affected, fingers crossed all fixed by the end of today.
MouseAT Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 It seems it's my turn to be affected by this. It was fine this morning, but now I'm only getting the four icons. I guess everything must be load balanced behind the scenes, and whether or not you're affected is going to depend on whether you're directed to a server with the certificate problem or not.

adhutton Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 Still got this problem. Anyone's working correctly now? Do I need to raise it with MS? It's shown as being in Extended recovery on the MS Service Health screens. Andrew
