tj2419 Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 I am looking at RM unify and notice that it can now sync MIS groups into G Suite, which is a big selling point for me. Can it sync student's and teacher timetables to their Google Calendar? I have been looking at Salamander software as my alternative but sticking with an RM system for our RM network maybe best in the long run. I would want it so the following happens automatically: User created in SIMS > Created in AD > Creates G Suite Account > Adds them to their Google classroom classes automatically > Updates distribution lists for staff and students and syncs their timetable with their G Suite Calendar. Does anyone using RM Unify know if it would do all of the above? Also what does the parent part of RM Unify do? On a side note, anyone know if RM are going to release a drive mapper product for Google Drive? Cheers
Arthur Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 Can it sync student's and teacher timetables to their Google Calendar? Unfortunately not. That's one thing it can't do. I am also looking at RM Unify. Not currently a customer.
tj2419 Posted February 28, 2017 Author Posted February 28, 2017 Damn it. Trying to work out best route forwards to starting using more cloud services between o365 and gsuite as we are currently using both to some degree. Have looked at unify, salamander, iamcloud but can't find one solution that does everything I want it too [emoji30] gets too pricey looking at getting a few of them. Cheers anyway
jmak Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 Take a look at airhead: http://www.airhead-education.com or http://airhead.io We moved from RM Unify to Airhead for some of the additional features and flexibility (primarily making our own tiles, so the range of services available is greater) and it compares favourably on price. Some kind of facility like this transforms access to the cloud. The concept of a cloud desktop (applies to both Unify and Airhead) meets some of the requirement of mapped drives and let's you mix and match cloud services from different providers - as well as change cloud service providers without massively affecting users. As far as I'm aware, Airhead can't do population of Google calendars, but they have a partnership with Groupcall so that might give you some options.
foofighterjim Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 No related to the OP questions but I know one thing RM are close to releasing with Unify is Local AD user provisioning from MIS Data. Definitely one less thing to worry about if you never have to create a user account again. 1
AlanD Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 I've looked at RM unify several times....but we already run Azure AD connect (to sync Office 365) and GAPS/GADS to sync google accounts....and we have created some Javascript/ASP to log students into some sites transparently...so I think its quite a lot of money to spend every year for a few (albeit convenient) tiles and not having to enter your password again to get to a site. I wasn't sure RM were actually syncing with MIS yet...but they have talked about it. Not sure how it will cope with different MIS systems - I guess it might only work with their own Integres. And yes - it would be great to export users and groups in real times and update timetables or calendars automatically...but its not there - or at least not yet. You could create tiles and menus within Office365 to produce a similar look to RM unify....for no cost. I don't think you will ever see the equivalent of RM's OneDrive mapper (or any other such product) for google because it doesn't/can't use WebDav - and so it always going to work by using Sync methods - which would bring any network to a stand still. 1

jonspurs Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 TJ, It doesn't work with multi/sub domains. So if students have [email protected] and staff are [email protected] then it won't play.
deano3693 Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 We use RM Unify and are very happy with it. Some of the newest features including Auto creation of groups from MIS (Includes SIMS) to Google Classroom and Office 365 Groups/Classroom etc - this is very useful. Updates each night. They are also looking into changing your password in the cloud and syncing back to AD, auto-creation of AD accounts from MIS would sync to RM Unify first and then back down into AD when this comes it will be worth it's weight in gold. Happy to answer any questions you might have. 1
Sylv3r Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 This might help with what RM are planning to introduce into the future. https://trello.com/b/qpuOCQTg/rm-unify We are a Office365 school with RM Unify and are very happy with it. 1
snagrat Posted March 10, 2017 Posted March 10, 2017 How much does RM Unify cost? Is it £250 or is that just the standard version?
tj2419 Posted March 10, 2017 Author Posted March 10, 2017 I think its £995pa with a £250 install fee.
deano3693 Posted March 10, 2017 Posted March 10, 2017 We pay £895 per year. There is no install if you do it yourself and it is very simple! 1

jmak Posted March 10, 2017 Posted March 10, 2017 I think it's based on number on role - we paid about £400 when we had it a couple of years ago.

steve_forbes Posted March 10, 2017 Posted March 10, 2017 Hi all, Steve from RM here, I manage the Product Management team that manage our network and cloud portfolios. I can answer some of the questions that have been raised on this thread: - MIS Sync into RM Unify has now been released and works with all the major UK MIS providers (Not just RM Integris) - We are currently developing the functionality to provision users into a CC4 AD from the MIS via RM Unify, provisioning users into a vanilla AD will follow - RM Unify can create groups from your MIS into both O365 and G Suite - There is currently no functionality to provision calendar/timetable information into either eco-system, this has been asked for by a number of people now so we will add it to the board for future consideration - RM Unify is customer installable in most circumstances, we do charge a small fee for those customers that require our assistance in doing so - The current price for RM Unify is £495 for schools with less than 500 pupils and £995 for those schools with 500+ I hope that helps, please let me know if you have any more questions and I would be happy to help. Steve

NotSoFast Posted March 10, 2017 Posted March 10, 2017 Hi Steve, does it provision Classroom from Progresso?
NotSoFast Posted March 10, 2017 Posted March 10, 2017 Hi Steve, does it provision Classroom from Progresso?
steve_forbes Posted March 11, 2017 Posted March 11, 2017 Hi, Yes it supports creating groups for Google classroom from Progresso. Microsoft Classroom is a little more complicated due to the need for SDS as an interim step but we are working on a solution to that as well. 1
snagrat Posted March 11, 2017 Posted March 11, 2017 Does Classroom need SDS to work? I know SDS will provision the classes etc but can you just use Classroom and get the teachers to manually create a class and invite the user's?

Yes you absolutely can do it manually, you only need SDS if you want to import groups into Classroom. Currently this can be done by extracting a CSV file from the MIS and then importing into SDS. We are looking at a way of automating that process through RM Unify.
simpsonj Posted March 16, 2017 Posted March 16, 2017 Sorry to leap on, but anyone else using RM Unify having difficulties with students logging in today, or just me?
