6Foot2 Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 Evidence of an alien life form - in the White House Are you sure that would qualify as a life form? Stretching the definition somewhat? On topic: A coherent signal worthy of more investigation?

CAM Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 Either something cool to scientists but ultimately not going to affect our civilization or something that will kill all of us. I'm hoping for the former.

AJWhite1970 Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 I'll be watching with interest, my guess is they have discovered exoplanets that potentially could sustain human life given their proximity from whatever star they are orbiting. About as much use as a SIMS patch without inventing the drive technology to get there though...
mikeprice Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 I make that 6p.m. tomorrow or am I wrong (not finished first coffee yet)
6Foot2 Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 (edited) I make that 6p.m. tomorrow or am I wrong (not finished first coffee yet) [^ Replace Tuesday with Wednesday] Edit: Confirmed, so relax and have your first coffee. Edited February 21, 2017 by 6Foot2 1

About as much use as a SIMS patch without inventing the drive technology to get there though... They have been finding exoplanets like this for awhile though and I doubt it would be something they would hold a press conference over now. What I'm hoping is that they have found a planet with with oxygen in the atmosphere as that means something has to be there to sustain it which almost certainly* means at least photosynthesise. Even better if they have found a planet with oxygen and methane in the atmosphere. *almost certainly except for maybe a process we haven't come across yet..... Even better would be if they found the place all the lost socks go after they vanish from the washing machine..
ICTDirect_Dave Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 Even better would be if they found the place all the lost socks go after they vanish from the washing machine.. Don't be ridiculous! Interdimensional travel is impossible!!* *Unless you are a sock it seems... 2
DeGrimmy Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 I wonder if it's a solar system very similar to ours, with a star of the same classification or similar mass, and a planet in the habitable zone about the same distance from its sun as the Earth is from the Sun. That would be something to get very excited over!

mikeprice Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 do socks go to the same place as teaspoons from staffrooms?? on topic - could be a radio signal of some kind?? I mean - in many many years time some aliens could pick up Tony Blackburn - could be same sort of thing or could be that some aliens have picked up Tony Blackburn and are on their way to eliminate the source

6Foot2 Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 More speculation to add to the pot: Link: Nearby Star Has 7 Earth-Sized Worlds - NASA Watch ...I have now learned that tomorrow's NASA news announcement is not about Alpha Centauri as I had been guessing (darn) but it is is something even more cool - or "warm" to be precise. Instead, the NASA announcement on Wednesday will be about a nearby star has at least 7 earth-sized planets... 1
DJ-1701 Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 More speculation to add to the pot: Link: Nearby Star Has 7 Earth-Sized Worlds - NASA Watch Well, don't just stand there... invent FTL drives already!
