It was a nice phone, but people are looking at that phone through rose-tinted glasses. I had one that failed during warranty... and they wouldn't fix it claiming 'water damage'... never went near water.

 

Might be a nice alternative for parents that want to give kids a way to communicate... but don't want this whole Internet obsession.

3310 will be fantastic for the older generation that haven't kept up with technology and probably had a 3310 back-in-the-day (c'mon, everyone had one) so it might be a bit more familiar to them. And to be fair, it's reasonably easier to use if you don't know anything about phones.

I got rid of mine years ago, I'd be tempted to go back to one for the battery life. The only thing that used to annoy me was no sync for contacts until the later phones and I used the Nokia manager tool to sync with Outlook. Now all mine are in my O365 they sync everywhere.

 

I've actually got a Nokia £10 thing from Tesco with a spare SIM in I keep in my bag for emergencies as the battery lasts forever.

Just thinking... if they are building these to exact specs... I am guessing they won't work on the Three network, as Three don't have older technology to support 1G or 2G signals.

I recently purchased a Nokia 105 for my dad since all he needed to do was make phone calls and receive texts. It has 15 hours talk time, 35 days standby time and includes a micro USB charger. Not bad for under £23.

 

I could have got a cheaper phone, but I don't think the standby times were as long as on the 105.

Nokia 3310 mobile phone resurrected at MWC 2017

 

The new 3310 qualifies as a "feature phone" rather than a smartphone as it only provides limited internet facilities.

 

It relies on 2.5G connectivity - which has slower data speeds than 3G or 4G - and is powered by the S30+ operating system, which allows web browsing but has a much smaller range of apps than Android or iOS. Its single camera is also restricted to two megapixels.

 

However, its advantage over more powerful handsets is its battery life. HMD says the colour-screened phone has up to a month's standby time and delivers more than 22 hours of talk time.

 

It also comes with the modern version of the classic game Snake preinstalled.

 

Its launch price is €49 ($51,75; £41.51).

Nothing really unique about it compared to the other basic Nokia phones you get free with a box of cereal either, I used to get them as work phones and the battery just never died on those either! They didn't even have a camera!

For MWC this year Nokia are bringing back the 8110 slider phone.

Nokia’s banana phone from The Matrix is back

 

Back in 1999, Keanu Reeves was famous for playing Neo in The Matrix, and not for looking sad on a bench. Nokia was also the “world’s leading mobile phone supplier” back then, and it used this popularity to feature its Nokia 8110 “banana phone” in The Matrix film. At the time everyone who considered themselves cool (definitely me) wanted a Nokia phone just like Neo’s, but most of us had to settle for the Nokia 7110 with its spring-loaded slider.

 

Now HMD, makers of Nokia-branded phones, is bringing the Nokia 8110 back to life as a retro classic. Just like the Nokia 3310 that was a surprise hit at Mobile World Congress last year, the 8110 plays on the same level of nostalgia. The slightly curved handset has a slider that lets you answer and end calls, and HMD is creating traditional black and banana yellow versions.

 

The Nokia 8110 runs on the Smart Feature OS, so this is a basic featurephone and you’re not going to get access to the Android apps found on other Nokia Android smartphones. However, HMD is creating an app store for the device, which will include Facebook so there’s a chance other third parties might create their own apps for this.

 

Unlike the 3310, the 8110 will ship with LTE support across Europe, with dual-SIM versions available too. Inside there’s a Qualcomm 205 Mobile Platform processor, 512MB of RAM, and 4GB of storage. While the banana phone looks big in pictures, it’s relatively small with just a 2.4-inch QVGA display and a 2-megapixel camera at the rear. You’ll even get access to a revamped Snake game, and an impressive 25 days of battery standby.

 

The Nokia 8110 will be available in May for just 79 euros ($97).

Good grief, has it really been almost 20 years since The Matrix?

 

I feel old now. I also remember thinking how cool those phones looked when I first saw the film and when I rewatched it about a year ago, how naff they looked

 

I also also remember being really disappointed when the sequels had some naff Motorola thing in them. Well, that was one reason I was disappointed with them anyway.
