Digital detox day

We have a digital detox day tomorrow for the students, and staff are ment to be setting a good example by avoiding using computers/technology where possible!

 

We're wondering how best to join in as an IT department - we have a few ideas already such as tidying up the store room, tidying up/re-cabletying cables, cleaning out inside computers. Just wondering if anyone has any other ideas, or do any other places do similar 'digital detox' days?

Ooh. That's a tricky one. You've named most of my suggestions.

 

Cleaning projectors. Reading through (paper copy required) and DIsaster Recovery Plan or other documentation to check it. Clearing your desks.

 

Setting up a penalty box in the staff room (donations to charity) for those caught checking their phones in breaks.

All the luck to you though! I doubt we'd last five minutes. That said, the opportunity to get the chance to tidy up our server room would be a godsend....

Cleaning out inside the computers may be a digital detox for the PCs, but it'll be the opposite for your lungs!

I have to say we don't have a 'Digital Detox Day' but I mumbled something along those lines loud enough for the Head to hear, after the 2nd or 3rd teacher came crying to me about how they couldn't possibly bear to be without their laptop for the whole day (whilst I do a regular preventive maintenance). How on earth are they supposed to be able to teach without it.....?!

Went fairly well in the end - printed off a couple of documents to read beforehand, and spent some time sorting out our storeroom!

 

Managed to avoid using my laptop (or any other computer) for the whole day at work myself!
