Eclipse Library Software - Any Good?

Hi all - have read a little bit on this, hoping to get some war stories on setting it up. If you have it, was the process horrible or ok?

 

Is it good/bad day-to-day? I think we'd be looking to not initially integrate with biometrics and go Eclipse-hosted.

 

Anyone with anything to say I'm grateful to read it!

Just came to setting it up again recently (it hasn't really been used since we went Eclipse Hosted in 2012, been paying for it all these years assuming the library actually used it). I preferred the locally installed version although not sure if that is supported any more, at least not the version we had which struggled to run on Win7.

 

Interface is a bit slow but not sure if that's Virgin's fault or theirs. It supports linking to Azure AD but this seems to only be for SSO rather than for importing borrowers. We use RFID student cards for the till systems and was hoping to re-use these for the library but there doesn't seem to be a way to look these up or import automatically (we store the RFID value in the user's employeeID attribute in AD, the rate at which kids lose/break their cards means a manual import is not good enough as their new cards have new IDs).

Also had problems importing from CSV and support are very slow to respond (started trying to import users 2 weeks ago, still not resolved).

 

I know when we set it up in 2012 there was an ActiveX plugin that let you import from local AD but I never managed to get that to work reliably.

 

One good point is that they seem to have abandoned Silverlight and now run a HTML5 based system.

 

For the price they charge for hosted I just don't see it having that much value myself. Having said that I'm no librarian, they may find it has all sorts of wonderful features that I don't even know about.

We're having quite a few problems with it - just seems to be one problem after another, but we host it ourselves. We're considering going eclipse hosted to avoid all these.

I had it installed onsite and that wasnt a pleasureable experience due to the issues we kept having with it. We are now hosted and its much better albeit a little slow sometimes, it talks to SIMS fine etc...

We currently have it onsite, although we do have a few issues with it now and then it is fairly reliable and the Librarian finds it very useful. They are pushing us to go hosted now which will be out next step over the coming year.

We have it onsite, it tends to just be left alone to work away pretty happily. It has had a couple of burps - the web server portion had to be moved to another host away from the DB but that was easy enough. It integrates with AD. We only recently went to the Silverlight version - hopefully they have done away with the need for this now - but our support contract has expired so we'll stick with what we have. I found the support to be quite decent - knowledgeable but often overworked. Syncing new users in from SIMS is fairly easy.

as above we have it hosted here on site and have done since eclipse.net was released we are running a slightly older version which has been ok.

attempted to install the newest none hosted version and ran into all sorted of issue (incorrect decimal places on duey numbers images not displaying etc)

Support were not brilliant and kept trying to push us to hosted (we dont have the budget for it)

 

Unless there is a massive reason to change to the latest version we will be sticking to what works as it is reliable (the support is a little iffy at times).

 

ours is synced with AD but i do a manual CSV import of new users as the state of the SIMS address data makes me cringe so this gives me more control over the formatting.

We have on-site and are maybe looking to go hosted. Though would appreciate any more feedback if it's worth it or not.
