FN-GM Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 Hello, I am wondering if anyone can suggest a basic video editing software that is free and runs on Windows 10 please? Someone that would be in the same league and Windows Movie Maker. Thanks
Arthur Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 (edited) Shotcut or OpenShot. Edit. Is Movie Maker not an option? Edited January 24, 2017 by Arthur
AJWhite1970 Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 Unless I'm misreading the question Windows Live 2012 Movie maker works fine on Windows 10, I use it all the time. For advanced editing though +1 for Shotcut Andrew
FragglePete Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 We're using Live Movie Maker here as well on Windows 10 with no issues. We use the command line: wlsetup-all.exe /AppSelect:MovieMaker /q /NOSEARCH /NOHOMEPAGE /NOCEIP /NOMU /NOLAUNCH This installs it as part of a package task. I'm led to believe the new Windows 10 'Creators' update has an up to date Movie Maker included along with a Groove Music Maker. Due Spring 2017 which should give us enough time to test it properly ready for Summer. Pete
enjay Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 https://www.wevideo.com caught my eye recently, online video editing so pushes the storage away from your network plus it allows students to work on things from home. There are mobile apps for it too. Basic version is free, but there are options for managed versions (create accounts for students automatically, easily share things with teacher etc.) for a few hundred quid.
Marci Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 (edited) Those suggesting MovieMaker - Windows Live MovieMaker (i.e. part of the Windows Essentials 2012 package) has been discontinued (as of Jan 10th 2017)... see https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/18614/windows-essentials In short, if you don't already have the Windows Essentials installer package downloaded, you can no longer get it from any official sources. You're reliant on someone on here sharing it with you, however, better to go with an alternative in the short-term until the Creators Update is released in April. Edited January 24, 2017 by Marci
Arthur Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 if you don't already have the Windows Essentials installer package downloaded, you can no longer get it from any official sources. You can still download the installer from Microsoft. I just tried it using the link I posted here... www.edugeek.net/forums/downloads/178297-windows-essentials-2012-support-ends-10th-january-2017-a.html#post1533183
AJWhite1970 Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 It's still on M$:- https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/14220/windows-movie-maker-download
JasonNVSD Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 It's still on M$:- https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/14220/windows-movie-maker-downloadNote Windows Essentials 2012 suite reached end of support on January 10, 2017. It is no longer available for download. It's weird that Microsoft didn't replace Movie Maker with anything for Windows 10. Even Autodesk Smoke is only for Mac. I will check out some of the other suggestions here and report back.
JasonNVSD Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 better to go with an alternative in the short-term until the Creators Update is released in April. Has it been confirmed that there's a video editor as part of the Creators Update?
fredbayker Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 I had problems installing Movie Maker on Windows 10 due to it moaning about dot net 3.5 installation.
Geoff Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 Blender can also do video editing. https://www.blender.org
Arthur Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 I had problems installing Movie Maker on Windows 10 due to it moaning about dot net 3.5 installation. The .NET Framework 3.5 can easily be added to Windows 10.
