Advice welcome

I currently use a HP Procurve 5406zl as my core switch which has been working solidly over the past few years. However, yesterday was the 2nd time in 9 months I had no other option than to completely power down the switch to resolve the network issues we were experiencing - clients were unable to recieve dhcp addresses from DC's, which would then have a knock on affect for other services.

In my HPE management software the switch was showing as 'normal' and no 'major' or 'warnings' highlighted , but I was unable to telnet into the core switch which left me little option other than to power down the switch. The moment the switch is backup, normal service resumes and I can telnet back in.

Any advice on troubleshooting would be appreciated.

I have been running the same verion of firmware for a number of years now.

Also worth checking for packet storms/loops around the place. We've had these eventually work our 5406zl into a strop and refuse to respond. Tracing and pulling the loops brings it back.
