I have always liked having something custom on all the other computers and every so often i like to change the logon background. 1 of the main reasons is because when i change the background i then notice if any computers are having faults picking up the new policy or having trust issues which no one has reported.

Sounds like it would be a good way to identify those with issues and then solve them!

It sure is, its like i have two apprentices at the moment and they go round checking room by room and by the end of the week they should have done the whole school but they always miss something. This way i can use lanschool on channel 0 and i can see every student computer and if i notice the logon background has not changed after a day or so then i know there is a problem.

ITBadger Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 We have used ours as a kind of noticeboard for students in the past, informing them of clubs, special events etc. At the moment though we are back to our school logo.

The main reason we do this is so that if anything goes walkabouts (such as a school laptop) it's immediately obvious to any pawn shop/guy down't pub where it came from. Garacesh Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 I can't take all the credit, they were like that when I got here I just made updated 1080p ones from scratch before the Summer, cause the ones we had were all JPEG-artifacty.

Trapper Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 Just "standard" dark blue colour from Windows 2000 with the school logo in the top right hand corner along with the workstation name. Set via BGInfo at configuration, and GPO sets the background to C:\Windows\BGInfo.bmp At a glance I can see the workstation name, and staff can report it back when they have a problem. All servers are the same but different colours for production, or test or archive etc with more information set in BGInfo such as logon date/time, IP addresses, disc space etc. and set with a registry key to run BGInfo.exe after each reboot to close after 1 second so it updates all the data displayed on BGInfo.bmp Works very well.
