Windows 10 Education - which version to use?

I was looking for windows 10 Pro education but couldn't find it in VLSC is it the same as Education 1607?

 

It sounds like 4 options:

 

Windows 10 Education

Windows 10 Pro education

Windows 10 Education KN

Windows 10 Education N

 

Which one is recommended?

I'm running Windows 10 Education build 1607 at a few sites now with no issues at all. Even the start menu and task bar icons are managed using the XML file.

N is the European version that comes without Windows Media Player, KN is the Korean version without Media Player. Unless you specifically don't want WMP, don't choose these (they exist because of the old EU rulings on antitrust etc).

all the EDU versions have cortana removed. We use W10 EDU 1607. I hadn't heard of the "pro EDU" before now.

Just a FYI when you download it make sure you download with 'English International' language, not 'English' as this is American English and the 'English International' is UK English

 

Or you have to go through the fun task of installing language packs!

been there, done that. Installing the language pack isn't the problem, the problem was all the "SET AS DEFAULT" screens, then setting the "advanced" logon screens too! Crazy.

Slightly different twist on the same question:

 

I have W10 Edu 1511 deployed to a test group and am happy with the way it's working. I'm updating my image with plans to roll out site wide. At this time (when 1607 is current branch for business) would you:

 

1) Stick with 1511 as I know it works satisfactorily

2) Build my new image with 1607 and deploy with crossed fingers

3) Wait until the April release

 

Supplementary question:

 

Will you allow in place updates to new versions of CBB or will you re-image?

I don't think it's unreasonable to skip versions -

 

For example, I deployed 1507, skipped 1511 and deployed 1607. Most likely I will skip Redstone 2. I guess it depends what exactly new (if anything) it will bring to the table.

Should have said deploy feature updates via WSUS or re-image.

And to answer your other query, always image. It's actually quicker than in place upgrades and leaves no old system files behind.

As for Feature Upgrades - I'm on the fence, again it depends how big they are and what it will offer to your end users.

 

But if you're running 1511 and say Redstone 2 is 1704 (as a complete guess), you would most likely notice the improvements. 1607 is faster than 1507 and 1511.
