Hamiliton is like Marmite at times, you either love or hate what he's done in F1.

 

As for the problems getting past Alonso, thats not much of a shock when you look at how fast he was through sector 2 in Mexico all weekend, and Lewis had a badly damaged defuser.

Merc have admitted their car hasn't always been the best out there this year but as a team they did well.

The only way to ever work out how "good" a driver is, is for them all to be in a single make series with identical setups.

 

I don't support a driver, I watch it for the action and stratergy and tbh this season has been much better than previous ones even though the championships have been wrapped up before the last race.

That's why Vettel managed to finish 4th on Sunday but Hamilton could only manage 9th even though he has the best car..........

 

You will see Hamilton crying and moaning next year when he does not have the best car on the grid.

 

No, he didn't; the tyres were not suiting the track (which everyone knew including ferrari, mercedes, all pundits) before the weekend even started, once he changed tyres he started making the moves up and the only one he really struggled with was a fighty Alonso. Again, nothing negative there. But people will blindly ignore facts to suit their own viewpoint

Not only that, he had a damaged rear diffuser from where Vettel smashed into him at the start. That wasn't going to help matters.

Vettel came back out of the pits a few seconds off the back markers (he actually got into the pits before the Saubers crossed the start / finish line!) and got pretty punchy as he had nothing to lose. Hamilton came out a further 26 seconds back from Vettel once he left the pits and was understandably being cautious with some of the more unpredictable drivers. Not a fan of either, looking forward to what Alonso can do with a remotely competitive engine in his donkey for next season.

If McLaren get back on form and start appearing amongst the front runners, it could be a great season next year. Mercedes and Ferrari will no doubt be present, but hopefully Red Bull will be there, too.

 

On the Ferrari thing, I think Liberty should call their bluff. I think the sport could easily survive if Ferrari left (they'd only come back anyway). There are plenty of racing teams out there who would kill to compete in F1, should the cost come down far enough. It has plenty of cache left over without Ferrari.

 

It's not as if Ferrari would dare to go and do WEC anyway!

But yes, I don't think LMP1 is on Ferrari's radar, as much as that would be cool. Somehow I don't think they'd like the idea of being forced to take on hybrid technology but having to compete with privateer teams without it.

I'll have to look into that one, the Donington collection is another on my list too!

 

What was unique about Red Bull's hall of fame was the lack of rope/fences. We were free to take as many pictures as we wanted, get up as close as we liked as long as we didn't touch the cars! And all of the cars are fitted as raced so no secrets hidden. I think that's why the only rule was "no photos of the back of the 2016 RB12 and the cockpit" as it's close in design to the current car.
