[ipad] iPad Headphone Jack Repair, Possible?

Hi, I have an iPad Air 2 to which was accidentally dropped (not by me, thankfully!) whilst having a headphone jack inserted. The jack is now faulty and won't accept any headphones inserted into it.

 

I have been advised by Apple that I need a whole new iPad, costing around £250. I was wondering if there is any way to repair such a part? Part of the aluminium is damaged, and also the headphone jack itself. I can post a photo if anyone requires it.

 

Just interested in any pointers and to what everyone recommends.

Thanks. It's a useful pointer, however I'm not sure in hindsight that it's actually the headphone jack damaged? It seems that the jack is unable to fit in the socket, yet there is nothing stuck in there? I was able to recover the whole 3.5mm adapter.

The headphone jack comes on a ribbon cable and is about £4. I use either hot air or my hotplate to warm the digitizer prior to removal. Depending where the dent is, it can usually be slowly worked back into shape. How bad is it ?

Maybe the drop caused the jack to lose shape?

Could have snapped part of the jack in the socket ?

 

They are replaceable though.

Is the aluminium deformed around the jack and it's stopping the headphone connector inserting fully ? The jack will need removing and the metal worked back into shape.

maybe you don't need the headphone socket? buy some cheap Bluetooth headphones for £12.
