TwistedHelixis Posted November 22, 2016 Posted November 22, 2016 If I understand, Team Drive might make life easier for schools who have default folder areas such as Teachers or pupils etc, I could be wrong but if a file is put in a team folder area the person who created it has shared ownership rather than it being that persons document, so if they leave a department that file stays in the team drive folder. Its more like a hosted server system. I could be completely wrong but thought I would post 1
gshaw Posted November 22, 2016 Posted November 22, 2016 Didn't Google used to say how Team \ Shared areas were dead and their method of individual file storage was the way forward? All that is old becomes new again
Arthur Posted November 22, 2016 Posted November 22, 2016 Here's the signup page... https://gsuiteupdates.googleblog.com/2016/11/google-team-drives-early-adopter.html I did our G Suite domain yesterday. 2
DGardiner Posted November 22, 2016 Posted November 22, 2016 been waiting for this for a long time! thanks for the info
TwistedHelixis Posted November 22, 2016 Author Posted November 22, 2016 Here's the signup page... https://gsuiteupdates.googleblog.com...y-adopter.html I did our G Suite domain yesterday. http://awscdn.cdngeek.com/images/smilies/smile.png Going to hang back until its all up and running, but please keep us posted when you start using it.
xlandhenry Posted November 24, 2016 Posted November 24, 2016 Lets hope onedrive follow suite! Haven't used Google in a while, but isn't this team drive equivalent to a team site doc lib in SharePoint? 1
caffrey Posted November 24, 2016 Posted November 24, 2016 I'm hoping this works the way I think it works and I can dump a lot of the AD based user areas onto it, might help a lot with collaboration too
Mr_Jiminy Posted November 24, 2016 Posted November 24, 2016 Haven't used Google in a while, but isn't this team drive equivalent to a team site doc lib in SharePoint? Indeed.
Alis_Klar Posted November 24, 2016 Posted November 24, 2016 We have gone O365 but we find that although OneDrive uses SharePoint in the back end when you need to do the more advanced tasks that need SharePoint for real then things get messy. What is the best way to implement a good old fashioned shared drive in O365 ideally with everyone able to save easily from Word Excel like you can with mapped drives? The new O365 groups seems to be the answer to most needs. Have heard of the IAMCLOUD drivemapper but not sure if we need that or not? https://www.iamcloud.com/cloud-drive-mapper/
jmak Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 Thank you for applying for the Google Team Drives Early Adopter Program (EAP). Unfortunately, because you do not meet the stated requirements for participation, we're unable to include your organization in the Team Drives EAP at this time. [/Quote]
rogerdnixon Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 My quick demo of it: Seems to work quite well. 1
fiza Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 @jmak - How many users do you have? We applied and got through based on 1200 students and 150 staff accounts. Not sure what the real criteria is to be accepted.

Not sure what the real criteria is to be accepted. 40ish staff + governor's + 300ish kids. I went back and looked on the registration page and think I met everything that's obvious... I guess I'll just have to wait.

The domain I have Team Drives enabled on is relatively new and currently only has < 10 users and a few Chromebooks. Very strange!
IrritableTech Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 I'm reluctant to sign up and start using team drive due to the lack of vault support. Have any of you ensured that users know this current limitation or are you all just playing with it at the moment?

Although I have let management know that its an Early Release so will change over time and that there is no Vault support. 1

DJ-1701 Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 Just playing too. I don't mind being a guinea pig. Sorry, but now I'm imagining this... 1
DGardiner Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 I've just received a survey request so I assume we're in! 400 staff users give or take no students
jmak Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 I turned down the survey - maybe that was my mistake.... I took a guess that very few of our staff would respond but quite a few would ask me what was going on, so I'd rather not. Oh well.
markwilfan Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 Biggest feature missing so far is not being able to move folders to team drive from Google drive. Doh. You can move files but not folders
TIOAOA Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 Also just received the survey email, but I'm like you @jmak - I don't think many will fill it out
fiza Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 Also just received the survey email, but I'm like you @jmak - I don't think many will fill it out I don't know how many in my school filled it out but I sent it to them and I know at least 6 did.
yac2016 Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 This looks good, just testing but works great, hopefully they will add vault support in the new year.
