With Apple set to announce new Macs at their event on Thursday at 6 p.m. UK time, is anyone else looking forward to seeing what gets released? It has been such a long time since Macs were last updated.

 

By the way, have a look in /System/​Library/​PrivateFrameworks/​PassKitUI.framework/​Versions/​A/​Resources on a Mac running 10.12.1 and you'll find images of the new 13" MacBook Pro with the "Magic Toolbar". :)

Im quite looking forward. My laptop is becoming 3 years old and I want to switch back to Mac. Hopefully they won't be a let down! :)

I'm somewhat excited by the prospect of a touch bar replacing the F-keys. There's scope for a greater range of options for sure, having a touch bar change it's offering depending on what program you are using makes a lot of sense to me :)

There's zero chance they will be upgradable. :)

 

I bet the new rMBPs will essentially be slightly larger versions of the 12" MacBook, but with more USB-C ports.

 

Hopefully they won't be a let down!

I am already slightly disappointed, since the rumours suggest the new models with have last years 6th gen. Intel "Skylake" CPUs instead of the brand new 7th gen. "Kaby Lake" CPUs which enables devices to have longer battery life, faster integrated graphics and full 4K HEVC/VP6 hardware-based decoding. The new Macs are already out-of-of date. :(

Reminds me of when they accouned the Macbook with the same spec as a tinfoil hat.

 

Don't get my wrong macs and built beautlfully (spell check still not working in Edge FYI) but they have always lacked on Tech Spec (Low end mainly high end you get an alright spec if you have £2k lying around)

The 2012 MBPr has 1600Mhz DDR3 Ram and PCIe storage and a 2560x1600 screen. The latest 2016 kaby-lake cpu'd Dell XPS in currys has.... 1600Mhz DDR3 RAM and PCIe storage and a 1920x1080 screen. :confused:

Must just be the dell, just found a hp with i5, 256gb ssd, 2200Mhz DDR4, the screen is 1366x768 but it's half the price at £450!

My wallet is ready..... It can sit next to my 2012 Macbook Air, 2013 Macbook Pro, 2015 Macbook Air and 2014 Mac Mini.

 

...Just one MacBook Pro of any description would do me fine... My 2009 iMac is getting long in the tooth and I need something mobile for my Ableton rig... Blast my tiny empty wallet!

I have a 2012 macbook pro, I won't be upgrading until they offer a 1TB SSD for a acceptable price. It's cheaper to buy the 2012 model and fit an SSD, even if the specs are behind.

 

But I will watch, they might have a surprise.

Love the touch bar feature. But nearly £3k including vat to match the storage capacity of my 2012 MacBook Pro ?

 

Could sell my MBP and my 27" iMac of course.

It looks nice, and I'm sure it'll be a decent piece of kit, but even by Apple standards those are some truly fearsome price tags.........

 

Dollar prices now seem to be pretty much translating directly into GBP as well which isn't helping. The fairly moderately spec'd entry level (i5/8GB RAM/356Gb SSD/Intel graphics) starts at £1449 ($1499) :(

Felt it was a little gimmicky, know their pushing the USB-C ports, but their still the only ones bothered about them that much at this stage, hard to tell really how popular that will be, given their insistence on other tech that never took off previously like Thunderbolt.

 

Personally I wouldn't buy another MBP at that price, I have a 2013 15" Retina MBP which is still going strong and that new entry level for an entry level laptop - the price is very off putting to me and I think it will prove a little harmful to them in the long run with that pricing, its entered stupid territory now price wise compared to offerings from Alienware/MSI/Asus for high end laptops.

 

I assume that they will probably do similar for iMacs in the new year too and gouge up the price.

As ever you've got to remember £ prices include 20% vat and the $ excludes sales tax at approx 10% in most states.

 

But yeah - expensive and and the dollar rate certainly doesn't help.

£1899 for an "Entry Level" 15" seems awfully high to me with a £300 increase, its a wonder people reacted against the pricing really, the top end one have had an increase of £700 so thats probably drawn the biggest gasps. Edited by rich_tech

They have finally scrapped the Macbook Pro 2012 non retina model. RIP. Hopefully mine will last for many years to come.

 

Is the price really that high? The retina pro was always that expensive.

 

Personally if I needed a MacBook, I would buy second hand.
