Maybe the 2 teams should be talking to each other more! You do not need an adaptor, you just need the correct cable. USB-C to Lightning Cable (1m) - Apple (UK)

And then this cable doesn't work with the Apple wall plug adapter. Top and bottom is they knew they where pushing their luck removing the headphone jack. Making it USB C and no Headphone would just tip it over the edge where people wouldn't buy it.

That's not 100% true, a huge amount of people buy iPhones because they are apple, I've even seen a few of our students confused when they got the new iPhone and it didn't have a headphone socket, most of them don't even check whats new! 1
