School Promotional Social Media Posts from Staff

Hoping that someone can help me out here with some ideas.

We tweet out images of the school's day to day activities with the children. Currently, a staff member will snap an image, mail it over to the headmaster for "approval" and he will go ahead and post it with a bit of blurb. This year they also want to start doing short videos as well. I'm not loving the workflow we have going here.

 

Having to email each post for approval to then be tweeted in turn is a pain in itself, including video files shot on an iPad the process is overly cumbersome.

 

How do other schools handle the flow of social media content?

We run a similarly cumbersome workflow here for our Facebook posts. All of the posts / images / videos come to me and then I post them up. Its really the only way to ensure that the quality / format is kept the same for every post. It also means that I can put some up to date information on the school website to try and keep parents visiting it.

 

If you were going to use multiple people then you would have to agree a set of rules / standards for what can be posted.

We manage our social media channels here, generally the information we are asked to put onto the school website we condense and transfer it across to Facebook / twitter etc. As long as the student has explicit photo consent from their parent regarding our website and / or our social media channels - we put the info on.

Maybe worth looking at Hootsuite for social media management if multiple people want to use it and look at some of the scheduling features.

Hootsuite is good but not very cheap although they may have an educational discount.

Buffer is free to a certain extent.

Sylv3r. Our long form content follows more or less the exact same path. That's not really an issue as most of the staff don't submit longer content.

 

I had a look into Buffer, looks almost perfect but would end up being ridiculous money if I wanted all staff to have access. Similar story with Hootsuite.

 

After posting this question I started having a look into Zapier to see if there is something I could put together there. I'm still working on it but I think I might be able to piece something together that would smooth the workflow.

What I'm thinking is having staff email the headmaster the tweets directly with images/video as attachments.

Headmaster gets a notice when a new email appears, he checks it then forwards it onto an inbox monitored by a Zap that tweets any emails it gets.

I could secure the account by bouncing any messages not coming from a certain email address/es.

 

It sounds just as cumbersome I know but it is far more practical than having to log into Twitter copy the tweet and media over and send it out. You can forward emails from anywhere from anything.
