In the same vein as Google+ for Work, Workplace tries to adapt social networks for internal use at businesses. Facebook's news feed, search, trending posts, live video, and more have all made the jump. Last I checked it was lurching around Office 365 in the hope someone would take it behind the shed and put it out of it's misery.

Also, would schools be comfortable with DPA type material being discussed on facebook platforms? Can of worms!

Thats what I am getting at. It would be the same procure for any other cloud provider a school gets involved with. You are asking the same questions, because its facebook it doesn't mean its any different from the rest. Its the same can of worms with all cloud solutions.

Its a separate URL than consumer facebook I believe. So should be simple (in theory!)

^ Yes, we check everyone. Facebook's track record needs to be considered as part of the risk analysis in the same way that we would consider someone with a drink-driving conviction applying to be a minibus driver. Both examples show lapses of judgment that are pertinent to the subject under discussion.

Yep still lurking around, we "use" it at our place as well as still emailing the world, have a company internal blog and various other things that no one really bothers about that much outside a core of people clearly who need more work to do

Oh! I forgot, that famous line, "I read it on Facebook" just something else to avoid as far a I am concerned.

It's very much still a product and Microsoft announced at Ignite further integration with Office365 to make Yammer less 'separate'.

We've just finished an online demo, and very impressed.

 

Less concerned about access and privacy settings as the only people who access data are people within the "company" and Admins control who accesses what.

 

I can see a lot of potential in our school for workplace as a communication tool and noticeboard. IT helpdesk, General Noticeboard, Announcements, Staff Social and Staff Sporting activities. Maybe keeping more pupil specific details to email...

I just finished the demo too and I agree - I think it has the potential to improve communication here and hopefully reduce the numbers of irrelevant emails. It will need plenty of testing but I also liked that you could create groups across multiple companies meaning we could have groups with our feeder primaries or other local schools in the area.

 

I am of course concerned about privacy and when I asked where the data was located they told me both in the US and EU and just pointed me at https://www.privacyshield.gov/participant?id=a2zt0000000GnywAAC saying it was all legal.

 

I'm looking forward to receiving my invite so I can start testing
